Chapter 1225
The call ended.
Evan listened to the dial tone for a moment before slamming his phone onto the desk.
Then he lit another cigarette and took a drag.
A cold laugh escaped him.
So she really was alive.
He had suspected it before.
But he hadn’t expected his suspicions to actually be true.
Hatred surged through his eyes, overwhelming and vicious.
Yet the moment he remembered Stella saying that she had already lost two lives while she was with the Wright family, some of that hatred faded.
Pain and hatred twisted together inside him.
It felt as though they were tearing his chest apart.
Back in the town near Sima Mountain, Felix returned with a grim expression.
As he got out of the car, he saw Stella sitting in the small yard outside the cabin.
He walked over and stopped in front of her.
Then his gaze shifted toward Remi, who was busy making jam in the open-air kitchenette nearby.
“We need to leave,” Felix told Stella.
Stella said nothing.
“Evan knows I’m still alive. He’s probably figured out that you’re alive too.”
This was anything but good news.
As Felix spoke, his eyes swept toward Remi, murderous intent flashing in them.
Stella followed his gaze.
“It wasn’t her.”
Felix froze.
Not her?
Then…

“You already knew?”
There wasn’t the slightest trace of surprise on Stella’s face.
Clearly, she had learned the news before he came back.
Of course.
How could he have forgotten?
Stella was hardly helpless herself.
Even while staying here, she still had people outside passing information to her from time to time.
And she was always ready to leave him at a moment’s notice.
The thought of her escape attempt half a month ago made Felix’s expression turn even colder.
Stella said nothing.
Ever since she became convinced that Jack had fed false leads to Gray, she had treated Felix with nothing but coldness.
After all, Jack worked for him.
Felix drew a deep breath.
“I’ll have someone pack your things.”
They were leaving, and he was taking her with him.
Felix had already had enough of Stella’s icy attitude.
He turned to leave.
But before he could take a step, Stella spoke.
“I’m going back to Harbor City.”
Felix stopped dead.
A chill seemed to spread over his entire body.
His hands slowly curled into fists.
He turned back.
Stella was looking at him.
The moment their eyes met, the tension between them turned frigid.
Felix stared at her.
“What did you say?”

She was going back to Harbor City?
So she really had never let Evan go.
From the moment she learned that her mother’s death might not actually have been the Wright family’s fault, her guilt toward Evan had only grown stronger.
And now she wanted to go back to him.
“You really can’t let him go, can you?” Felix said through clenched teeth. “You never did.”
Stella didn’t answer.
