Chapter 1240
Sometimes, when a person wasn’t thinking straight, getting beaten up really was the fastest way to knock some sense into them.
Evan took another long drink, finishing nearly half the bottle.
His mind was already clouded by alcohol.
And yet one thought kept circling in his head.
Was there still any way forward for him and Stella?
He was tired of things being like this.
“Where do you think Stella and I go from here?”
Lucas froze.
“What?”
“Is there still any way forward for us?”
Lucas fell silent.
A way back?
So after everything that had happened, late at night, with alcohol dulling Evan’s mind, the thing he still wanted most was a future with Stella?
But how could there be one?
There wasn’t.
There hadn’t been one since Harbor City.
Every time Evan had turned away from Stella because of Summer, he had pushed them further past the point of
no return.
Evan closed his eyes in pain.
“I never wanted us to end up like this.”
“There’s no chance for the two of you anymore,” Lucas said. “Give it up.”
The words were cruel.
But they were true.
After everything that had happened between them, what way forward could possibly be left?
At this point, it was already a miracle they weren’t trying to kill each other.
Evan said nothing.

Lucas’s words made something in his chest twist painfully.
No chance.
There really was no chance left for him and Stella.
Deep down, he knew that too.
“You still blame her,” Lucas continued. “Don’t you?
“If you didn’t, you wouldn’t have been this furious these past few days.
“You put all the blame on her.”
Right now, Stella wasn’t standing in front of him.
But if she were, Evan might start blaming her all over again.
And he still wanted to ask whether they had a future?
They didn’t.
“The best thing for both of you is to never have anything to do with each other again.”
No more contact.
No more dragging each other back into the same pain.
That was probably the only way either of them could finally be free.
Evan was quiet for a long time.
Then he asked,
“Do you think she’s with Felix now?”
Felix.
The two of them had spent the past few months together.
Just thinking about that was enough to make Evan furious.
Even though he knew there was no future left between him and Stella, he still couldn’t stop wondering whether she and Felix had gotten together.
Lucas’s eyelid twitched.
“Who she spends the rest of her life with has nothing to do with you anymore.”
More accurately, from this point on, the best ending for their relationship was for them to have nothing to do with each other at all.
No more hatred.
No more revenge.

If they kept going, there would never be an end to it.
Whatever Stella chose to do with her life from now on was no longer something Evan had the right to concern himself with.
Evan lowered his gaze.
“Felix was right.”
His voice was full of pain.
“I caused all of this.”
For once, he admitted it.
No one liked admitting they were wrong.
But right now, Evan did.
He admitted that everything had started with him.
If he hadn’t hurt Stella so deeply over Summer in the beginning, everything afterward might never have spiraled so badly out of control.
The root of it had been him from the start.
Lucas looked at him.
“I just hope you still think that way when you wake up tomorrow.”
Right now, Evan was drunk.
A drunk Evan could finally see his own mistakes.
But what about when he sobered up?
Would he go right back to hating Stella again?
