Chapter 1245
Lucas gave Evan a long, searching look.
“Are you sure you hate her?”
Evan fell silent.
Was he sure?
Lucas continued,
“If you really hated her that much, you would’ve already sent people to find her and kill her.”
But he hadn’t.
That morning, Evan had called off every person he had sent out to search for Stella.
Lucas had been surprised when he heard.
Back when everyone believed Stella was dead, Evan had refused to call off the search.
Yet now, when he supposedly had every reason to hate her, he had ordered everyone back.
This should have been the moment when he wanted to tear her apart.
Instead, Evan seemed to be letting her go.
That was especially surprising considering how vindictive Evan had always been.
Evan closed his eyes.
No one knew what was going through his mind.
But the suffocating heaviness around him only grew stronger.
When it came to everything between him and Stella…
Just as Stella had said, there was no telling who had been right and who had been wrong anymore.
Whatever they had once shared, it had all become hopelessly tangled.
Stella had even stopped talking about right and wrong.
Now, all she cared about was who won and who lost.
Clearly, even she could no longer make sense of any of it.
Lucas sighed.
“I’ve never seen two people get married and make such a complete mess of everything.”
Evan’s chest tightened at those words.
Then he gave a bitter laugh.

“So when it comes down to it, it really was my fault.”
Ducas said nothing.
“I promised her I’d give her the best life possible. I promised I’d never let her suffer.”
His voice turned rough.
“And in the end, I was the reason everything became like this.”
Lucas was right.
When Stella married him, Evan had made her promises about the life he would give her.
And somehow, he had turned all of it into a complete disaster.
“What right do I have to hate her?”
None.
He had no right at all.
Whether before or after their marriage, Stella had always been clear about what she wanted.
She wanted peace.
She didn’t like being disturbed.
And she hated being pressured in the name of family.
Before they married, Evan had agreed to all of it without hesitation.
He had promised her again and again that he understood.
But after they married, he had repeatedly asked Stella to compromise for him.
She had told him she didn’t want to deal with suffocating family obligations.
Yet he kept taking her back to the Wright family home, where she was met with nothing but coldness and hostility.
She had told him she wanted peace and didn’t want people constantly intruding on her life.
But even when they stayed away from the family home, Dora and Fiona would show up at Innkwood Manor whenever they pleased.
And every time they came, Stella was the one they tormented.
In the end, Evan had broken every promise he had made her.
To put it plainly…
Summer had only been the spark.
Even without Summer, even without the misunderstanding surrounding Stella’s mother, their marriage

probably still would have ended in divorce.
Lucas said nothing.
Did Evan have the right to hate her?
No.
