Chapter 225

Evan’s face turned livid with anger.

As soon as Stella hung up, he bit out, “Who was that? Felix?”

Stella: “”

Felix again.

And right as he said that-

Felix’s call came through.

Stella glanced at the screen and answered. “Mr. Hernandez.”

“Felix.”

She paused. “Felix…” –

Calling him by his first name still felt unnatural.

He was much older than her. Calling him that directly didn’t sit right. Lately, he had helped her a lot.

Evan had already seen the caller ID the moment her phone lit up.

His expression was already dark.

Now, hearing the way she spoke to Felix…

To him, it sounded like flirting right in front of his face.

The violent edge in his aura surged even stronger.

On the other end, Felix said, “Summer’s baby is missing. You know?”

“Do you think I took her too?”

Even Jennifer had already hinted at that earlier.

Yes, she hated Summer.

Yes, she couldn’t stand Summer’s child.

But she would never hurt a baby.

What she had done these past few days-using her brother to deal with Ruby Bailey-was one thing.

But she would never cross that line.

Felix didn’t hesitate. “You wouldn’t.”

Three simple words.

But hearing them made something tighten painfully in her chest.

A stranger believed her without question.

And yet the man she had lived with for so long had already convicted her.

Stella gave a faint, bitter smile, “Thanks for the trust.”

“Let me guess,” Felix continued, “the Wright family is already coming after you for the baby?”

Her expression stiffened. “You know them pretty well.”

“What about Evan? How’s he reacting?”

Stella let out a soft laugh. “He agreed to divorce me just to get the baby back.”

What else would his reaction be?

Standing with his family, of course.

Hearing how casually she spoke to Felix, Evan’s face grew even darker.

There was a brief pause on the other end.

Then Felix said gently, “What can I do to help?”

Stella started, “You’ve already-”

Before she could finish-

Evan snapped.

He strode over, yanked the phone out of her hand, and barked into it, “Haven’t you done enough already? You’ve practically helped her divorce me at this point.”

Stella: “…”

Felix: “”

Stella reacted instantly, stepping forward to grab her phone back.

But Evan dodged her hand.

Her attempt only made him angrier.

“Felix, we’re like this because of you. Having a ‘friend’ like you is the worst luck I’ve ever had.”

“And I’m not done with this. Not over the child.”

With that, he hung up.

Stella stopped trying to take the phone back.

She just stood there, watching him.

That quiet, detached look-

As if he could do whatever he wanted, and it no longer mattered-

No one could see how much disappointment and hurt had built up behind it.

Evan met her silence.

The rage boiling inside him finally strapped.

He turned and kicked the coffee table hard, sending it sliding across the floor.

The violence in his back. The force of thankick.

Stella didn’t even want to imagine what would happen if that strength were turned on her.

Between the two of them-

One of them was going to break.

Evan’s voice was cold. “You’re in that much of a rush to divorce me because of Felix? This whole thing with the baby… he helped you, didn’t he?”

Stella said nothing.

At this point, anytime divorce came up, Felix would be dragged into it.

After what just happened, she knew-anything she said would be useless.

Seeing her stay silent, Evan turned to look at her.

His eyes were bloodshot, like he wanted to tear her apart.

Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang.

The moment he answered-

Dora’s weak voice came through. “Summer… she slit her wrist.”

Evan froze.

And in that instant, he looked at Stella.

Dora was crying uncontrollably. “Ask Stella what she wants. What will it take for her to return the baby?

“What exactly does she want Summer to pay?

“…If someone has to pay, then I’ll do it for her.”

These past few days, Stella had pushed things hard.

And Summer had been spiraling just as badly.

Dora was completely worn down.

Evan didn’t say a word.

He just hung up and walked back over, sitting down across from Stella.

He pulled out a lighter and a cigarette.

Click.

The flame flickered to life.

He lit it, taking one drag after another.

Neither of them spoke.

The cold fury radiating off him made it clear-he was this close to grabbing her by the throat and forcing the truth out of her.

Under that pressure-

Stella finally spoke.

“I didn’t take the baby.”

Evan might not listen.

But she still had a mouth.

He took another hard drag. “If it wasn’t you, then who was it?”

Stella: “…”

Who?

There it was again.

That same impossible, suffocating attitude.

Talking to him felt like talking into a void.

Stella said flatly, “Instead of wasting time on me, maybe you should go find the baby.”

“You said it yourself. If I bring the baby back, we divorce.”

Evan stared at her.

Stella let out a quiet, mocking laugh. “So just because I said that, now it has to be me?”

What else was there to say?

Whenever it came to anything involving her and the Wright family, he lost all reason.

Evan took another drag.

Silence fell between them again.
