Chapter 226
The only reason Summer dared act this boldly was because she thought her mother’s trouble was about to
blow over.
The moment Stella brought up her mother, Summer’s breathing caught on the other end of the line.
“What are you trying to do?”
“You hid the baby, didn’t you?” Stella asked bluntly.
That instantly set Summer off. “What kind of nonsense are you talking about?”
Stella let out a cold laugh. “Nonsense? Summer, I know exactly what kind of person you are.”
The thought of Evan’s unfinished warning before he left flashed through her mind.
Wasn’t this exactly what Summer wanted?
“You really never learn, do you?” Stella said before Summer could answer.
Summer fell silent.
“Your mother still hasn’t come back, has she?” Stella went on. “Did she send you good news?”
“What exactly are you trying to do?” Summer bit out through clenched teeth.
“Where’s the baby?”
“My child is missing, and you’re asking me where she is?” Summer shot back. “Stella, you’re ridiculous.”
Stella’s tone stayed calm. “If I put that baby in Evan’s arms, he’ll divorce me.”
Summer said nothing.
“Isn’t that what you want too?” Stella continued. “So tell me where the baby is. I’ll hand her to Evan, and we both get what we want.”
Stella was certain Summer had hidden the child herself.
That was why she asked for her so directly.
On the other end, hearing the words ‘we both get what we want’ made Summer’s heart pound wildly.
Yes.
That WAS what she wanted.
Even though her mother had told her before leaving for Eirden not to provoke Stella for the time being, she
still wanted Stella out of the Wright family as soon as possible.
And hearing Stella call it a result they both wanted stirred something in her.
But she was still waiting for the right timing.
She wanted Stella tied to the child, yes, but not yet.

Het grip tightened around the phone. “He really said that?”
“He’s convinced I took the baby. He said as long as I bring her back, he’ll agree to the divorce.”
At that, Stella gave a quiet, mocking laugh.
Then she added, “Summer, if you and your mother used this level of skill on anything else, you’d probably be the richest women in the world by now.”
At that moment, Stella couldn’t help clicking her tongue inwardly.
She had to admit it. Summer really was her mother’s daughter.
Sharp. Calculating. Effective.
The way she operated had made Evan trust her completely.
What a waste.
All that cleverness, spent on a man.
“So,” Stella said again, “where’s the baby?”
By now, she wasn’t willing to wait until morning and hope Evan would show up at the courthouse.
On the other end, Summer’s grip on the phone tightened even more.
As badly as she wanted Stella to use the child to force Evan into a divorce right now, it still wasn’t the right
time.
In the end, she forced herself to swallow the result she had almost within reach and said, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“You don’t have to answer right away.”
Stella wasn’t surprised.
The baby had only just gone missing. Summer was probably still too nervous to risk giving anything away.
Then Stella added, “Give me an answer before sunrise.”
Hiding her own daughter…
