Chapter 284
At the Wright house, Evan woke with a pounding headache.
The hangover had left his stomach churning the moment he opened his eyes
He lay there in the dim room for a long, long time.
It had been a while since his stomach had felt this bad.
Ever since he married Stella, it had not happened again.
Back when she was still around, whenever he came home drunk from business dinners, she would press a hot towel to his chest. By the next morning, he would wake up without that awful hungover feeling.
But now, the ache in his stomach was a harsh reminder that Stella was no longer by his side.
His phone began to buzz. It was Patrick calling.
Still feeling miserable, Evan answered. “Yeah?”
“We’re probably not going to be able to hold on to any of the Baggen City projects.”
The moment he heard it was about Baggen City, Evan closed his eyes. Even his slow, steady breaths still carried the heavy scent of alcohol.
“The Hogarth Group again?”
“Yes.”
Evan fell silent.
When he heard it was the Hogarth Group again, he was genuinely starting to lose patience. He had not done a thing to offend them.
But now they were coming after him like a rabid dog that would not let go.
“You still haven’t found out why?” Evan asked coldly.
“No.”

Evan truly had no idea how Wright Corporation had ended up on the Hogarth Group’s bad side.
That was why he had sent Patrick to investigate.
And Patrick still had nothing.
Hearing that answer, Evan opened his eyes. A sharp, dangerous light flashed in them. “Could it really be because of Felix?”
Patrick did not know how to answer that.
Still, he said, “But Mr. Hernandez only has a business partnership with the Hogarth Group.”
If the Hogarth Group was targeting Wright Corporation because of Felix, it did not really add up.

“Then what the hell is the reason?” Evan snapped.
His tone had turned ugly
As far as he could remember, he had never had any dealings with the Hogarth Group at all, let alone any grudge against them.
And yet it was obvious now that they were targeting him.
Among the people in his circle, Felix was the only one with any kind of business connection to the Hogarth Group.
So other than Felix, Evan could not think of a single other reason.
“Forget it. I’m hanging up.”
Patrick was getting more useless by the day, and Evan’s patience with him was running thinner and thinner.
He hung up and immediately called Felix.
But Felix did not answer.
He called twice in a row. Still nothing.
So Evan called his assistant, Jack, instead.
Jack picked up. “Mr. Wright.”
His tone over the phone was still respectful.
“Put Felix on.”
“You can call Mr. Hernandez directly.”
“Put him on,” Evan bit out through clenched teeth.
If Felix would answer his calls, would he really be calling Jack instead?
At that moment, Jack was standing right beside Felix.
Hearing the fury in Evan’s voice, Jack looked at Felix nervously.
A moment ago, when Evan had called, Felix had seen it and ignored it.
Jack clearly had not expected Evan to call him instead.
