Chapter 286
At the Mount Lara, Evan’s stomach was in such bad shape he could barely sit still. Marianne had made him some soup, but he only managed a couple mouthful before asking her to bring him stomach medicine instead.
As she handed him the pills, Marianne said softly, “When Mrs. Wright was still here, your stomach never acted up like this.”
Even when he came home drunk before, Evan had always seemed fine the next morning.
No one knew how Stella used to manage it, but now that she was gone, his body was already starting to give
out.
Hearing that, Evan paused with the glass in his hand. His expression darkened immediately.
He had just swallowed the medicine when Patrick called again.
“Mr. Wright, you need to come to the office right away.”
“What happened?”
The severity in Patrick’s voice made Evan’s brows knit tightly.
“Our overseas projects are running into problems one after another. We just got word that several major projects in Borset and Sia were snatched away too. A number of major shareholders got wind of it and have already come to the office. Things aren’t looking good.”
The projects in Baggen City had only just gone wrong,
And now the ones in Borset and Sia were in trouble too?
Evan set down his glass and pressed a hand to his aching temple. “This is the Hogarth Group again, isn’t it?”
The words came out through gritted teeth.
“Yes,” Patrick said.
Evan fell silent.
The Hogarth Group.
What exactly had he done to offend them?
୮
As far as he could remember, he had never crossed them once. So why were they clamping down on Wright Corporation like a pack of rabid dogs?
At this point, that was exactly how Evan saw them.
They were locked onto Wright Corporation and refusing to let go.
Things had escalated this far. If he still said the Hogarth Group was not targeting them on purpose, even he would not believe it anymore.

“I’m on my way.”
He threw out those four words, got to his feet, and headed for the door, his whole body radiating cold fury.
As he walked out, he asked Patrick over the phone, “How are things on her side?”
By her, he meant Stella.
A child had died. By now, she should have been taken in, shouldn’t she?
The sudden mention of Stella caught Patrick off guard.
“You mean Miss Rowan? The people we sent to keep watch haven’t reported anything.”
Even though Evan had already signed the divorce agreement, the people around him had started changing the way they addressed Stella.
But the words ‘Miss Rowan’ only made Evan’s expression turn colder.
His displeasure came through the line instantly.
“Miss Rowan?”
Patrick froze.
Hearing the sharp, sinister edge in Evan’s voice, he did not know how to respond for a moment.
Evan’s icy voice came again. “She hasn’t been arrested?”
Patrick went quiet.
Arrested.
Logically, after the police report yesterday, Stella should already have been taken into custody.
And yet he still had not received any news that she had been arrested.
“Probably not,” Patrick said at last.
He had people watching the police side. If Stella had been taken in, he would have heard bout it by now.
