Chapter 293

Patrick blinked. “What?”

Cancel it?

Right now, they needed to meet with someone from Hogarth Group and find out what the hell was going on over there, did they not?

And he wanted to cancel at a time like this?

Evan closed his eyes. “Yeah. Cancel it.”

At that moment, all he could think about was the softness in Stella’s voice on the phone.

It had been too gentle.

Evan did not believe for a second that it meant she wanted to make things work with him again.

He did not know what Stella was planning next.

But something about it felt deeply wrong.

That soft, smiling tone of hers had been downright unsettling.

Patrick nodded. “Understood.”

“Still nothing from that side?”

By ‘that side’, he meant the police.

If the evidence had really been solid, they should have taken her in by now.

And yet he had still been able to reach her by phone just now.

Patrick shook his head. “Nothing.”

After a pause, he added, “It is probably because the evidence is not strong enough. Otherwise they would have acted by now.”

Evan let out a cold laugh. “Is it really lack of evidence, or is Felix protecting her again?”

ľ

Patrick fell silent.

That was very possible.

Felix had been backing Stella the whole time.

Evan pressed two fingers to his aching temple, Stella’s soft voice replaying in his mind.

It had been too gentle.

So gentle that he could still hear the smile in it.

She had been dead set on divorce before.

And now she had suddenly changed her tune… saying they should not get divorced?

No. Something was off.

She would never willingly say she did not want a divorce unless she had a reason.

So what was it?

If she had backed off, what was she planning to do next?

Thinking of everything she had done before, Evan looked at Patrick and said, “Make arrangements. Put more people on Summer and the kids. Especially the kids.”

Patrick nodded at once. “Yes, sir.”

Right now, the children were what Evan was most guarded about when it came to Stella.

Even though, deep down, there was still a voice telling him Stella had not killed that little girl.

The moment he heard Stella agree not to divorce him, his first instinct was still to be on guard.

Meanwhile, back at Mount Pansworth, Stella finally answered Hogarth Aaron’s call.

“Stella.”

“Aaron.”

“Gray said the divorce did not go through. Have Evan sign a new agreement.”

“Wait,” Stella said, her voice tightly controlled.

Even through the phone, the coldness in her tone was almost impossible to miss.

Aaron paused. “What happened?”

Stella lowered her eyes.

When she looked up again, the cold in her gaze seemed to have frozen solid.

Then she said in an icy voice, “I am going to tear the Wright family apart with my own hands.”

She broke off for a second.

Then, with a flash of frost in her eyes, she added, “Piece by piece.”

The words came out cold enough to chill the blood.

Even Aaron went still on the other end of the line.

Then his voice sharpened. “What happened?”
