Chapter 469

Hearing Ruby suddenly turn so harsh over the phone made Summer feel even more wronged.
Right now, she could not even handle her own mess. How was she supposed to handle Andrew’s
situation too?
When Ruby heard the grievance in Summer’s voice, her anger surged even higher.
“Do you have any idea how many things I need Alex to handle for me here in Eirden?
“His son is in Evan’s hands right now. If you don’t handle that properly for him, what if he gets upset and stops helping me?”
Summer said, “Is it really that Alex won’t help you properly, or are you the one who’s desperate?”
Pushed to the edge, Summer could no longer hold back her emotions.
On the other end, Ruby’s temper flared the moment she heard that.
“What is that supposed to mean?”
Her voice grew even sharper.
Summer felt waves of suffocation pressing down on her. She took a deep breath and said, “Nothing.”
What could she mean?
At some point, Summer had begun to feel that Ruby often favored Andrew too.
Summer was clearly her biological daughter.
Yet sometimes, when Summer asked for something, her mother refused to satisfy her.
But whenever Andrew mentioned something to Ruby, Ruby would agree almost immediately.
And now, it was happening again.
Ruby’s voice turned icy. “You’d better not mean anything else.”
“Enough. Deal with your own mess. Don’t bother with Andrew’s situation anymore.”
Now that Evan had caught Summer and Frank together red-handed, Ruby could only hope Summer would still be able to make Evan trust her the way he had before.
As for Andrew, Ruby had figured it out.
Summer had never sincerely intended to help her handle that matter.
Even if Summer spoke to Evan in person, she might not truly save Andrew. Worse, she might ruin everything.

Ruby hung up.
Summer looked through the car window.
Not far away, Evan had one foot planted on Frank’s back.
Frank had woken up at some point.
His face was covered in blood, and he looked utterly battered and helpless.
But in Summer’s eyes, there was more heartache than anything else.
Tears blurred her vision.
Instinctively, she reached for the car door.
Mrs. Mendes grabbed her at once. “Miss, what are you doing?”
“Am I supposed to just sit here and watch him beat Frank to death?”
“Wait,” Mrs. Mendes said. “Maybe Mr. Wright isn’t sure whether you’re in the car.”
If Evan was not certain, then getting out now would expose her directly.
“Then why is he beating Frank?”
If Evan was not sure she was in the car, he probably would not have beaten Frank like this.
“Maybe he’s testing whether you’re inside.”
Summer froze.
“Testing whether you’ll protect Mr. Frank.”
Summer fell silent.
Testing her?
If that was the case, then no matter what, she could not get out of the car.
At that thought, Summer took several deep breaths.
“Yes. I can’t get out. I have to wait. Just wait… But what if he really beats Frank to death?”
Seeing Frank sprawled motionless on the ground, Summer was genuinely afraid Evan might kill him.
“He probably won’t,” Mrs. Mendes said. “Let’s wait a little longer.”
Mrs. Mendes had done so many things alongside Summer. She did not want Summer and Frank’s relationship to be exposed either.
After all, if she was dragged into it, she would pay a heavy price too.
