Chapter 495

They liked having pets, but liking them was one thing. They would never keep them in the main house.
There was a separate area on the estate where the animals were kept, and the servants usually took care of them.
Whenever the women in the Wright family were in the mood, they would go over and play with the animals for a while.
Summer liked large dogs. The one she owned was truly ugly, with a wrinkled, droopy face.
Once, she had even secretly tried to make the dog hurt Stella.
Unfortunately for her, Stella had grown up in an orphanage. Dangerous things like that did not scare her at all.
When the dog charged at her, Stella had grabbed the nearest object and struck it on the head.
The dog bled quite a bit, and Summer had been heartbroken. She had cried miserably in front of Dora.
Dora had been ridiculous too. She had actually demanded that Stella apologize to the dog.
Of course Stella had refused.
The whole thing had caused a huge scene. It only quieted down after Evan came back.
Stella finished the tea in her cup, then stood.
At the pet area.
Stella had hardly ever come here before. She only knew the Wright family liked keeping pets.
But she had not expected them to like animals this much.
The pet area was fairly large. There were dogs, cats, rabbits, and even alpacas. There were quite a few kinds of animals.
As soon as Stella got out of the car, she instinctively covered her nose.
The mixed smell of so many animals was unpleasant.
When she looked up, she saw Summer not far away, constantly urging Mrs. Mendes.
“Hurry up. Her people aren’t here right now.”
As she spoke, Summer kept waving a hand in front of her nose. Clearly, she could not stand the smell of the animal waste either.
The dog she had once loved so much was circling around her feet.
But today, Summer showed none of her usual affection for it. Irritated, she kicked it away.
“Get lost. Can’t you see I’m annoyed?”
To people like them, pets existed only to be played with when they were in a good mood. When they were not in the mood, the animals could be kicked aside without a second thought.
Right now, Summer was far too irritated to care about the dog.

Mrs. Mendes’s face was dark, but in front of Summer, she did not dare speak out.
Summer snapped, “It stinks. How long has this place gone without being cleaned?”
Mrs. Mendes said, “Probably since Miss Rowan dismissed all the Wright family servants.’
There used to be people assigned specifically to clean this place.
But the day Stella fired all the Wright family servants, that arrangement ended. Naturally, the people Stella brought with her would not take care of these pets for them.
Places like this had to be cleaned several times a day to stay presentable.
If they were neglected for even one day, they became so filthy there was almost nowhere to step.
Summer could barely stand the smell, but she did not dare go straight back to her room either.
“Hurry up!”
The stench was making her dizzy.
She kept urging Mrs. Mendes harshly, though Mrs. Mendes had not finished her own work either.
The moment Summer had been assigned this job, she had gone to find Mrs. Mendes.
She had never imagined that Stella’s people would actually give her such filthy work.
Dora and Fiona had only been asked to clean the house.
But Summer had been sent to clean the animal enclosures.
“Ugh, I can’t take this anymore. I’m going outside first. Hurry up and finish cleaning. Her people will be back soon!”
With that, Summer ran toward the exit with a face full of disgust.
But the moment she reached the door, she met Stella’s smiling gaze.
Summer’s breath froze.
Just then, the maid who had been watching Summer returned from the restroom.
Seeing Stella there, the maid immediately greeted her respectfully.
“Miss.”
