Chapter 69
There was something wet on Fiona’s face.
She slowly pulled her hand away.
When she saw her palm covered in blood, her pupils shrank.
“Ah-!”
Dora, who had been about to leap forward and scream at Stella again, was startled by Fiona’s piercing
shriek.
Then she saw it.
A deep gash had split open across Fiona’s cheek. Blood was pouring down.
For a moment, Dora couldn’t breathe.
“Blood-Mom, my face-my face…”
Fiona touched it again instinctively.
The second her fingers brushed the wound, pain exploded through her.
Blood streamed down her jaw and along her neck, warm and metallic in scent.
Dora looked from Stella upstairs to Evan standing rigid nearby-then her eyes fell on the bloodied ashtray on the floor.
Her voice shook.
“Evan, you-you…”
Evan’s lips pressed into a thin line. He calmly picked up his phone and dialed 911 for an ambulance.
Dora felt faint with fury.
“That’s your sister!” she screamed. “How could you hit her like that over an outsider?”
Her voice trembled with rage-and unmistakable contempt toward Stella.
Evan’s eyes narrowed.
“Stella is my wife. She’s the outsider to you. Not to me.
“If that mouth of hers can’t learn respect, then maybe it’s better this way.
Disrespecting Stella was the same as disrespecting him.
Dora froze.
Fiona froze.
Fiona’s face went pale as she stared at her brother.
“Mom…” she whispered, trembling.

“You’ve gone too far, Evan! A girl’s face is everything! What kind of brother are you? This is outrageous-
In the end, the ambulance came for Fiona.
Dora left with her, soaked in cold water, humiliated and furious.
The living room was left in chaos.
Evan looked up.
The second-floor railing was empty. Stella was gone.
He glanced at the mess downstairs and exhaled heavily.
Then he went upstairs.
When he reached the bedroom door-
It was locked.
He hissed under his breath.
“Seriously?”
She’d dumped a basin of water on his mother, and somehow she was still angry?
He grabbed the spare key and unlocked the door.
Inside, Stella was already asleep.
He walked around to the other side of the bed and slipped under the covers, pulling her small body into his
arms.

She felt cold.
He opened his robe and wrapped it around her, enclosing her against his chest.
She shifted slightly, trying to push him away.
He murmured softly, almost tiredly, “Be good. Go to sleep.”
He was exhausted.
Stella had expected him to come up furious. After all, she’d just dumped water on his mother.
She had even prepared herself for another fight.
If he wanted to argue, fine.

She didn’t have the energy tonight anyway. She’d spent the entire day at the biotech lab and was already
