Hearing that, Stella said, “Evan once told me the same thing. He said what happened between us was only between the two of us, but later…”
Later, what?
Maybe, at the beginning, it really had been only about the two of them.
When the Wright family first disliked Stella, Evan had defended her.
But over time…
As the conflict kept building, he lost patience.
He began telling Stella to be more understanding.
He told her not to provoke his family.
He even told her not to see them.
As though every conflict had been her fault alone.
Seeing the sadness in Stella’s eyes, Felix tightened his hold on her hand.
“This time is different.”
“How is it different?”
“We’ll both be in Eirden. That’s Hogarth territory.”
Stella said nothing.
Felix said, “From now on, no one from any family will get to make things difficult for you.”
Stella looked at him in silence.
Lucas had no idea how he made it out of the Wright estate.
He called Leon and spent the whole drive ranting about Evan.
“All these years, I treated him like a brother. Turns out I was just the fool he used.”
Even thinking about it made Lucas feel sick.
Leon said, “Stella’s right, though. Why didn’t you think to text her?”
It was a long drive from Harbor City to Westbridge.
It never occurred to Lucas to send Stella one message?
If he had, Stella and Felix would not be so angry at him now.
Stella had spent all this time fighting to take everything from the Wright family and divorce Evan.
She had gotten Wright Group.
