Chapter 801
It was becoming a mess.
Stella and Evan had reached a point where things still had not truly ended.
Evan had even run.
After everything that had happened between them, they should have been able to separate cleanly.
But Evan had never intended to let Stella go properly.
It had exhausted Stella.
And now, watching it all unfold, Jennifer had been left with her own fears.
With an example like that in front of her, it was only natural that she could not trust Leon.
“Leon.”
“Trust me,” he said softly. “Just be good, okay?”
Leon kept trying to soothe her.
He had been angry about what happened that day.
But feeling Jennifer’s distrust, and the fear beneath it, he could not bring himself to blame her.
“Get some sleep first, okay? You didn’t sleep at all last night.”
Only then did Jennifer notice the dark circles beneath his eyes.
She remembered Lucas saying Leon had driven through the night to get there.
Jennifer had wanted to say more.
But seeing how exhausted he looked, she swallowed the words.
She was tired too.
She had tried to leave the hotel in the middle of the night, only for Lucas to stop her.
She had been so angry that she barely slept.
And she knew that once Leon arrived, dealing with the pregnancy would not be so simple anymore.
The next morning, Jennifer was dragged out of bed by Leon.
“I don’t want to go back.”
Hamilton was not bad.
She had liked the city the moment she arrived yesterday.

Maybe staying here would not be so bad.
“Don’t say ridiculous things,” Leon said. “Are you going to hate Harbor City now just because my mother did something stupid?”
Jennifer went quiet.
Stupid.
Was it really polite to call his own mother stupid?
Though honestly…
It had been pretty stupid.
At first, Jennifer had only been angry because she felt humiliated by the hundred dollars.
But after Lucas pointed out that Mrs. Redson had humiliated Leon too, she stopped being quite so upset.
After all, Mrs. Redson had not insulted Jennifer alone.
She had dragged Leon down with her.
Thinking about it that way made Jennifer feel a little better.
“You know,” Leon said, “does my mother really think I’m only worth a hundred dollars?”
Apparently, people who were not related by blood could still have the exact same train of thought.
Leon and Lucas had somehow landed on the same conclusion.
Jennifer laughed before she could stop herself.
“Maybe you really are that cheap.”
What had been a deeply irritating situation was suddenly funny.
Hearing Leon say it too, Jennifer could not hold back her laughter.
“I’m going to ask her about it when we get back,” Leon said. “At the very least, she should’ve offered you fifty million. A hundred million, even. Something that reflects my value.”
Seriously.
She had tried to get rid of Jennifer for a hundred dollars.
The last time Mrs. Redson had tried to send his sister’s boyfriend away, she had spent five million.
But when it came to him, she offered a hundred dollars?
The more Leon thought about it, the more annoyed he became.
“That’s insulting,” he said. “Seriously insulting.”
