Things had already spiraled out of control because of Summer, and now Felix and Aaron were doing this too.
“I’ll tell Remi to be extra careful,” Amos said. “Aaron and Felix are going to tear the world apart looking for her.”
Their search was not the only problem.
Kylo had already backed out of the deal because of their interference.
Felix and Aaron would not stop at hunting for Stella. They would keep pressuring Amos until he handed her over.
“I used to think you were shameless when it came to your wife,” Amos added. “Turns out there are people even worse than you.”
Evan said nothing.
Did Amos ever think before he spoke?
If Amos had nothing good to say, he should learn to keep his mouth shut instead of offending everyone the moment he opened it.
…
Stella acted as though she no longer cared.
But late at night, when she was alone, she took out another phone.
There was a single message on the screen.
'The information is confirmed.'
Only four words, yet they made her heart sink completely.
The information was about Felix and Aaron negotiating with General Litt.
They were actually willing to negotiate with him.
What was she even supposed to think of them anymore?
Stella called the number.
The other person answered quickly.
“There’s no rush on the payment.”
Stella had paid for the information.
Every piece of intelligence came with a fixed price, and she transferred the money once she received confirmation.
“What is Litt asking for?” she asked.
Amos’s people had already told her that General Litt wanted her.
But she still needed to hear it from another source.
Amos had been close to Evan.
Even with Evan supposedly dead, Stella could not help wondering whether Amos might deliberately portray Felix and Aaron in the worst possible light for Evan’s sake.
She did not want even the slightest distortion in the information she received.
“You.”
The single word came through the phone.
Stella’s grip tightened.
“Understood.”
She did not even decline the call. She simply let it ring until it stopped.
Remi entered and noticed the unanswered phone.
“You can answer now. We’ve already masked the location.”
Stella looked at her.
“It’s safe?”
“The terrain around Sevi Valley is complicated. With the signal rerouted, they won’t be able to trace us.”
That was one of the reasons Evan had arranged for Stella to be brought here.
It was an ideal place to disappear.
Stella looked at the phone again.
“Forget it. I still won’t answer.”
Whatever Jennifer wanted, Stella doubted her situation was any worse than Jennifer’s.
More importantly, General Litt was now specifically asking for Stella.
Felix and Aaron were searching everywhere for her.
At a time like this, she could not afford to reveal even the slightest clue about where she was hiding.
Remi studied her expression.
“You’ve completely given up on them, haven’t you?”
