Chapter 40
Killian
When I first came awake confusion hit me like a ton of bricks. I recognised where I was instantly. Lotties room. Her scent was the first thing I noticed, that ultra girly vanilla based scent that was uniquely here but that didn’t help me.
Why was I asleep in her room when the sun was high in the sky and pounding through the curtain. If her parents found me here I would be kicked out on my ass and
Why was I naked?
It came rushing back in a rush? All of last night, from the first moment I had sunk into her tight body until the last time when totally exhausted we had fallen asleep naked in each other’s arms.
She wasn’t in my arms any longer. The bed next to me was cold. Where was she?
That’s when I heard it, raised voices. Female but not Lotties.
I bolted upright in the bed. I knew that shrill condescending voice. Her parents.
Fuck her parents were here. For a second panic tightened my chest before I realised that we were adults now. I had my own life, I didn’t live under their roof
any longer.
Sure last night I had come through the window but that was because of habit not because I was hiding. And if they had been here last night they sure as
hell would have heard us.
Which meant they had just arrived back. And saw-
Saw well my bike in their drive. They might not know exactly who their daughter had in their house but they wouldn’t be happy with anyone like me.
“You don’t understand.” I heard Lottie say just as loudly. “There’s so much going on that you don’t understand.”
“Who’s bike is that Charlotte?” Her father asked in a low growl. That sent a prickle of unease up my spine. I’d heard that man lose his temper several times but only a handful when he sounded like that.
And none of those times had ended well. There was a direct threat in it.
Grabbing my clothes I threw them on. I stiffed my feet into my boots but left them unlaced and headed down the stairs.
“You tell me right the fuck now Charlotte, or so help ine god.”
I stepped into their bright and airy kitchen and thick silence fell. “God won’t be able to help you, if you touch her.”
Three sets of eyes swivelled to me.
“You.”
I nodded my head politely but didn’t smile. “Me.” I said softly, in a voice that was laced with anger. “Guessing you never expected to see me darken your doorstep, ever again hey?” I gave a chuckle that was sardonic and not happy

Chapter 40
“We boped “botties father began to say and froze when reached out a hand. “Come here Lottie.” I ordered softly.
“Don’t you dare go with him Charlotte. We always knew something sick was going on between the two of you and her mother began to shriek. Literally clutching at the pearls wrapped around her turkey neck. “That’s why we got rid of you when we had the chance. We don’t want you here Killian, Charlotte
doesn’t want you here. Tell him sweetheart. Tell him to leave.”
Oh they had gotten rid of me alright. I’d spent years in prison but if they ever thought that would stop what me and Lottie had they were sadly mistaken.
Lottie didn’t even hesitate. Slipping her hand into mine she stepped into my side and wrapped my arm around her.
I met her fathers stare with a grin of triumph.
“Charlotte.” He warned again. At his side his hands clenched into fists. “He is your brother, Killian was part of this family for years.”
I almost laughed out loud. I had lived in this house and they hadn’t mistreated me but at no time had I been part of this family.
And Lottie had never been my sister. From the moment she had come to introduce herself she had always been my entire reason for living.
Even when I hated her, or thought I did. She had always been the reason I took another breath.

Dimly I became aware of the sound of a bike approaching. Loud and obnoxious.
Xanders bike.
Coming, as he always did at just the right moment.
Always the hero in worn black leather.
“He’s not my brother, daddy.”
My head whipped around to stare down at her. She looked so small. Fragile and afraid. I knew how much courage it was taking to stand up to her parents.
Her entire life she had always craved their approval,
Lotties wide eyes flicked up to mine before she lowered them again. “He’s the love of my life.”
My heart swelled in my chest. I’d heard her say she loved me a million times over the years but this was different. This was her getting to her family that
she was mine and I was hers.
Her mother made a choking sound in the back of her throat. “You can’t mean that- it’s sick, it’s wrong.”
Lottie squared her shoulders. “I mean it from the bottom of my heart. And it’s none of the things you said. I have loved Killian forever and I think-” she faltered and looked a little apprehensive.
I squeezed her shoulders. “You know how I feel Lottie.” I said loudly. “How I’ve always felt.” I added.
She let out a sigh of relief but it was short lived. Her father drew himself up to his full height and stepped into my space. “Get your hands off of my daughter and get out of my house.”
I looked down at him. My eyes narrowed as I tried not to laugh. Maybe once upon a time I would have been scared of him but these days were long gone.
