Chapter 41

Xander

Neither one of them said a word as they stomped out of the white washed kind of posh two story house. Lottie led the way but Killian was close on her heels. His clothes all messed up so I already knew how they had spent last night. A flicker of jealousy swept through me, but it was short lived.

A red faced, clearly angry man stormed out after them. Bustling with rage but neither Killian or Lottie said anything. She climbed onto the bike and they roared away together. Leaving me behind.

Until I shook myself and went after them.

Even when we got back to my place and found them arguing outside neither one of them said anything to me. It was like suddenly I don’t exist in their little bubble of togetherness. Not that I was surprised. I had kind of steeled myself to this happening.

They had so much history, more than I could compete with and-

Killian whipped around to stare at me. “Tell her,Xander.” He demanded.

I could do nothing but stand there and stare at her. Clearly I was coming into the middle of an argument and had no idea what was happening but that

didn’t seem to matter to them.

Lottie turned tear filled eyes to me and I felt my heart lurch. Jesus, I never wanted to see her cry.

“Tell her what?”

“That she stays with us. That she’s not homeless.”

My eyebrows shot up. “Homeless?”

“She chose me,” Killian began to say and again my heart kind of twisted. She chose him, not us. My lips thinned.

“He’s cutting her off. She has no one, no jobs and-”

“Shut up. I don’t need charity. I will manage. I might need a smaller place but-”

For the space of five seconds I stared at her and then striding forward, I threw her over my shoulder and walked into the house

I was all for a woman standing on her own two feet. I wasn’t a caveman but her moving away from me was unacceptable. I needed her close. Either next door or under my roof.

Chuckling to himself Killian followed in after us.

I didn’t stop until I could drop her on the sofa. She bounced once and glared at me before dropping her face into her hands.

“Explain what the fuck is going on.” I commanded as peeling off my cut I fell into the other chair. I flicked my eyes between the two of them. Noting mome tenderly he held her hand and how she gave him a weak smile.

Fuck, there really was no competing. I loved them both but I wasn’t sure if they loved me. Each other, sure but me?

shook my head sadly.

“Her father” Kilian began to say and I cut him off with a shake of my head.

“You’ve told me that part. And we will get to it. Lottie won’t be homeless.” I smiled at her. “You’re always welcome here. This can be your home if you want it to be. But I need to know the truth?”

“What do you mean?”

I levelled my eyes on her. She looked nervous and rightly so. But even so I hated the way she was chewing on her lip. I could already see teeth marks in them. Soon she would split the skin and make herself bleed.

“The truth.” I said firmly, crossing the room I knelt at her feet and caught her face between my hands., not letting her look away.

“Get off of her.” Killian’s voice was a low warning growl. Which I ignored completely. “Now Xander.”

I ignored that as well. Squeezing her cheeks together I forced her to look at me. “Tell me the truth, tell us the truth. Why do -”

She ripped her face away from me. Jumping up to her feet so suddenly that I almost fell backwards. “Don’t ask me-” she sobbed but her voice was full of rage. “Don’t ask me to talk about that time in my life.”

Slowly I stood up. I hated the pain and fear in her voice but I had to know the truth. And after last night I wanted to hear it from her lips.

Not the half truths that Killian had been told or believed but the truth.

“You have to talk about it Lottie.” I said as gently as I could. Reaching up I brushed my fingers along her cheek. Tucking her dark hair behind her ear. “You have to tell him the truth about what happened. If you want us to protect you from them. If you want the club to go to war for you. Then be honest Lortie.

Tell him why he went to prison.”
