Love After Leaving: No Regret

Chapter 167 The Engagement Scandal

Finished

Everyone looked up at the same time. Agnes walked straight into the center of the hall. She wore black sunglasses, her face tight with anger. She pointed at Raymond and Hillary on the stage and shouted, “You two are disgusting! Raymond! How could you do this to me? You just divorced me, and now you’re already with her?!

“And you, Hillary! You’re shameless! You knew he was married and still went after him. Have you no shame? Stealing someone else’s husband!”

Raymond pulled Hillary into his arms and snapped back, “That’s enough, Agnes! It’s over between us! Today is my engagement party with Hillary. Please leave!

“I’m trying to keep this civil out of respect for what we had. Walk out on your own. If not, I’ll have security remove you. And if you ever go after Hillary again, you won’t like what happens next.”

Hillary had been ready to argue back, but the moment she heard Raymond defend her so firmly, her attitude changed. She shrank into his arms, looking soft and hurt.

“Agnes,” she said in a trembling voice, “I know you hate me. But in love, the one who isn’t loved is the outsider. Raymond has always loved me.

“You need to stop lying to yourself. We were torn apart because of you before, but I’ve let that go. I just hope you can take care of yourself and find someone who truly loves you… maybe Neal…”

She paused, then added lightly, “Aren’t you already together anyway?”

Agnes exploded.

“That’s not true! I never wanted a divorce! It was you-wasn’t it? You told Raymond to leave me!

“And now you’re dragging Neal into this? You’re unbelievable, Hillary! Do enough bad things, and it’ll come back to you!”

Hillary’s eyes turned red. With so many people watching, she choked up as she spoke, “Agnes, please stop. You’re only making things worse. Everyone already knows about you and Neal.

“You’ve thrown the family into chaos, and now you’re trying to take their assets too. Just stop while you can.

“Raymond has been going easy on you out of respect for your marriage. At least leave with some dignity.”

“I did nothing wrong!” Agnes screamed. “This is all your fault, Hillary!”

She rushed forward, wild with anger. Raymond gave a quick look, and several men in black suits stepped in. They grabbed Agnes and dragged her out of the hall.

“I warned you already,” Raymond said coldly. “You chose to make a scene. From now on, you are not to appear in front of Hillary again. Get her out of here!”

Hillary stayed in his arms, watching Agnes cry and struggle as she was dragged away. Hearing Raymond’s words, she finally felt at ease.

This engagement needed to happen fast. Agnes was clearly not giving up. Once the wedding was done, she would have all the time she needed to deal with her.

One day, she would make sure Agnes disappeared completely.

Hillary looked up at Raymond, her voice soft again. “Do you think Agnes hates me now? I didn’t want things to turn out like this. Please don’t hurt her, okay?

“She’s alone now, divorced. She’s so pathetic. Just send her away from Grandridge and never let her come back.”

Raymond smiled gently. “You’re too kind, Hillary. We’ll do it your way.”

Hillary leaned against him, acting sweet. If Agnes were kept outside the city, it would be even easier to deal with her.

When the time came, she could make her vanish for good. No one would even remember her.

After that small disturbance, the engagement party quickly returned to normal.

Down in the audience, Harvey watched everything that had just happened. He leaned over and whispered a few words to Scar-eye, who quietly left the room.

Harvey had come today for one reason—to make a name for himself.

He wanted everyone to know that he was now the father-in-law of one of the most powerful men in Grandridge. From now on, people would have to treat him with respect.

He also planned to use the Newtons to meet other wealthy families and expand his business connections.

Raymond and Hillary moved through the crowd, raising glasses and greeting guests. Harvey followed right behind them, toasting everyone and loudly introducing himself.

Hillary was beyond annoyed. She felt embarrassed and wished her father would just disappear.

Luckily, there weren’t that many guests yet. Raymond had planned to wait for more people, but
