Monica pouted. “Raymond, you used to drive me home all the time. And when you couldn’t, Duncan would do it… but now Duncan…”

As she spoke, she glanced at Agnes, who had been standing quietly nearby.

Agnes looked at her with clear dislike. Monica couldn’t help but take a small breath.

“Oh–sorry, I said the wrong thing,” Monica said quickly, pretending to panic. “What I mean is… Raymond, can you take me home? You know I’ve always been timid. Riding with a stranger makes me nervous. I would be upset.”

She paused, then added softly, “Are you worried Agnes might be upset?”

Then she turned to Agnes with teary eyes and a sweet voice.

“Agnes, I know I shouldn’t bother you. But we’re both women, right? Women understand each other best. How can I let a stranger drive me home?

“I know you wouldn’t be mad. You’d even ask Raymond to take me home, right?”

Agnes let out a small laugh. The fake sweetness was almost choking.

“Sure,” she said lightly. “Raymond, go ahead and take Monica home.” She added with a playful tone, “Don’t let her sad. She might starts crying now.”

Raymond frowned slightly. Was Agnes acting cute just now?

He turned to Monica. “Since when did you get so delicate?”

“You can either let the driver take you or walk home yourself. I’m busy.”

“Agnes! Wait!” Raymond quickly caught up to Agnes.

“Don’t misunderstand,” he said. “Monica’s always been like that. Just ignore her.”

Agnes shrugged. “Doesn’t matter to me.”

“Really?” he asked. “Then… where are you going?”

“I’m staying with Sabrina tonight. I’ll be at the estate. It’s late; you should head home.”

Raymond nodded. “Okay, if you need anything, call me.”

“I will. Good night.”

He wanted to stay, but he was afraid it would make her uncomfortable. Now, whatever she said, he followed. He didn’t dare cross any line.

Monica was left embarrassed. She stormed off and went home.

The moment she stepped into the house, she heard loud crashing noises upstairs, things being smashed. A man and a woman were yelling at each other.

Monica acted like she heard nothing. She tossed her bag to a servant and kicked off her heels.

Then she went straight to her room. Standing in front of the mirror, she struck pose after pose, admiring her figure.

Her parents‘ fights didn’t bother her anymore.

She had gotten used to it long ago.
