Chapter 188 The Fire Before the Finale
Fireshed
“How could this happen?! Are you serious? What kind of job are you people doing?! This is a huge mess! You’re completely irresponsible!
“We’re heading over right now! I’m filing a complaint! You’d better give us an explanation!”
Nadia’s furious shout stunned everyone. They all turned to look at her.
She hung up, her face pale and shaken. Then she rushed to Agnes.
“Agnes, this is bad. The fashion week team just called. They said… they said…”
She stammered and looked timid, unable to finish her words.
Agnes frowned. “What did they say?”
Nadia swallowed. “They said… there was a fire backstage.”
“What?!” The others gasped, panic spreading across their faces.
Agnes was startled too, but she quickly calmed down.
“If there was a fire backstage… what about our
res?”
Nadia spoke softly, almost whispering. “They put the fire out in time. They said it was caused by an electrical short circuit… but… some of our pieces were damaged.”
Her last words came out barely audible. Her heart sank. Months of hard work… gone just like that.
Agnes frowned slightly, but her voice stayed steady. “Don’t panic. Let’s go see it for ourselves.”
When they arrived, everyone sucked in a sharp breath.
The fire had started near an electrical panel, not far from their display area.
Besides Agnes’s booth, two or three other brands were affected, but her brand had it the worst.
The white embroidered gown was badly burned. Black patches covered the fabric. Several holes were scorched through it.
Nadia and Rita immediately chased down the event staff and started arguing.
But Agnes stood alone, holding the gown, staring at it in silence.
There was only one of this new design. It had taken months to make. There was no way to recreate it on the spot.
The show was less than an hour away. Even if they rushed back to get something else, it would be too late.
That meant Tidewhisper Lily would have to drop out.
Chapter 188–The Fire Before the Finale
Finished
Agnes didn’t waste time thinking. She grabbed a sewing kit, walked into a room, and shut the door behind her. She didn’t come out.
Outside, the rest of the employees paced back and forth anxiously.
The fire had been small and quickly controlled. Other than a few damaged pieces, everything else was fine.
So the show continued as planned.
On stage, the host was already introducing each collection with excitement.
Rita scratched her head. “Hey, what do you think Agnes is doing in there?”
Nadia shook her head. “No idea. And honestly, I don’t even want to guess.”
Rita sighed. “That dress is ruined. Looks like this year’s show is over for us.”
Nadia clenched her fists. “What kind of place lets a fire happen like this? It’s ridiculous!”
Rita nodded. “Exactly! I’ve never heard of anything like this before. And the organizers haven’t said a word yet. Who’s going to pay for all this damage? Every brand depends on this show to promote their new line!”
Nadia huffed. “Just wait. We’re definitely going to fight this. I won’t let them get away with it!”
Rita glanced at the door, uneasy. “It’s been a long time. What if Agnes is too upset and does something stupid in there?”
Nadia shot her a look. “Rita, maybe don’t say things like that.”
Rita blinked. “What?”
Nadia crossed her arms. “You’ll scare yourself to death.”
Rita sighed. “I’m just worried about Agnes. She worked so hard for this. And then this happens… Maybe we should check on her?”
The others nodded. It had been too quiet for too long. They knocked on the door.
No answer.
Rita stepped back. “Move aside. I’ll break it open.”
She had a larger build and had gotten into position like she was about to sprint.
Just as she was about to charge, the door opened.
