After hitting him for a long time, Carmen finally wore herself out.
The two of them stood in front of Eleanor's grave in silence.
A dull gray rainy sky hung overhead, covering the entire cemetery in a heavy, oppressive gloom.
After a long while, Kayden finally spoke. His voice was low and raspy.
"I'm sorry..."
Carmen snorted. "If you really felt sorry, you should've killed yourself as an apology. Why are you still alive?
"Eleanor died for no reason because of you. You're a sinner!"
Kayden said nothing. He didn't defend himself.
Back then, to avenge Eleanor, he ignored his family's objections and insisted on going against the Newtons.
In the end, not only did he fail to get revenge for Eleanor, but he dragged his family down with him.
Jillian had joined forces with several other major elite families to crush them.
Overnight, his family went bankrupt and collapsed. Their relatives scattered. From that moment on, they disappeared from Grandridge entirely.
Carmen knew about it, but she felt they deserved it. It was karma!
Kayden's voice was rough. "I'm a sinner. I do deserve to die.
"But before I die, I'll make the Newton siblings pay in blood!"
Carmen let out a mocking laugh, her eyes full of disdain.
"Are you tired of living after I spared you back then, so you came back looking for death?
"What can you even do? Your family is already long gone and ruined."
Kayden lowered his gaze, his heart feeling like it had been struck hard.
The Gibsons had fallen because of him. He really did deserve to die.
But what exactly did he do wrong? He just fell in love with a girl.
He never intended to force her into death.
If he'd known how everything would turn out, he would have kept his distance and never disturbed her life.
But it was too late.
It was all because he had approached Eleanor and angered Ursa.
He was the indirect cause of Eleanor's death. He was also an accomplice.
Kayden's hatred toward the Newtons was no less than Carmen's, maybe even deeper.
Over the years after leaving Grandridge, he had clawed his way up abroad, surviving on nothing but desperation. In the end, he finally made something of himself.
Now, he finally had the strength and ability to come back and settle everything himself and the Newtons once and for all.
Kayden murmured darkly, "I'm not the Kayden I used to be anymore..."
He paused, then looked at Carmen. "I've investigated Duncan and Ursa this time. They've already been kicked out of the Newtons.
"But my people still can't find them. It's like they've vanished. Caitlin, are they with you?"
