Agnes chuckled. "You must have put a lot of effort into preparing for that, didn't you?
"If I had told you outright, wouldn't that have ruined all your effort?"
"You!"
Agnes looked Clara up and down and continued, "Just like your outfit today. I'm sure you put quite a bit of thought into it, right? Haha."
Before Clara could respond, Agnes suddenly slammed the spoon in her hand onto the table with a loud clack.
Her smile vanished, replaced by a cold expression. She slowly walked up to Clara and said icily, "Ms. Blue, you'd better focus on your own responsibilities and do your job properly. Otherwise..."
Agnes's slender finger jabbed hard into Clara's chest, causing her to stagger backward.
"I'm not stupid. I know exactly what you're thinking.
"If you've got what it takes, rely on your own abilities. Stop resorting to underhanded tricks."
Agnes suddenly leaned close to Clara's ear and whispered, "And you'd better not provoke me. I can be pretty crazy."
A chilling sensation ran down Clara's spine. She thought Agnes was terrifying.
Her voice trembled as she asked, "D-didn't you and Mr. Newton... already get divorced?"
Agnes smiled meaningfully. "Does that have anything to do with you?"
For some reason, Clara felt an inexplicable sense of panic. The woman in front of her was no ordinary person.
She quickly switched to a respectful smile. "I'm sorry, Ms. Sinclair. I spoke out of turn just now.
"What I meant was, many people remain like family even after divorce.
"Seeing how well you and Mr. Newton still get along after your divorce, I really admire that."
Her tone turned sincere as she apologized. "I'm truly sorry.
"I was just anxious and overthinking things, which led me to say the wrong things. Please don't take it to heart."
She bowed to Agnes and said politely, "I'll leave you to it, Ms. Sinclair. Just let me know if you need anything."
The moment she turned away, Clara's ingratiating smile instantly disappeared.
She quickly left. When she reached downstairs, something seemed to occur to her. She let out a quiet laugh.
Agnes made chicken soup for Raymond, along with a few light side dishes.
At that moment, Clara came over again and eagerly took the initiative to help carry the tray into Raymond's room.
Raymond took a sip of the long-missed soup. The familiar taste hit him. Before he could stop himself, he ended up drinking several bowls in a row.
It wasn't until Agnes reminded him not to drink too much that he obediently put the bowl down.
