Chapter 4 Get Out!
Linda collapsed on the floor, her face full of panic. She still tried to argue
“Not me! It wasn’t me! Someone must be trying to frame me! I’ve never seen these things before!”
“Oh?” Agnes said. “Then tell me. Who would frame you? Who in this house would dare?”
Linda went silent. She didn’t know what to say. “L… I don’t know. But it’s not mine!”
“What, did these things grow legs and sneak into your room by themselves?
“Linda, did you forget there are cameras all over this mansion? Should we check the footage?”
Agnes knew Linda liked to take little things. She had even seen her hide food in the kitchen before.
But it had always been small things–food or drinks. Nothing serious. So she usually let it go.
After all, Linda had worked with Raymond for many years.
But today, Agnes didn’t want to put up with it anymore. Why should she?
Finched
She had spent three miserable years here. She got nothing out of it. She lost her baby. She even lost
herself.
And these people still stepped all over her every day.
“Mrs. Newton, I know I was wrong! I won’t do it again! I… I was just greedy. I’m sorry! I really know I was wrong!”
Linda had lost all her usual arrogance. She kept rubbing her hands and begging for forgiveness, even forcing out a few tears.
She had gotten used to the good life in the Newtons‘ house. If she left now, at her age, what else could she do?
Agnes ignored her. She walked over to the pile of items and searched through them. Soon she pulled out a
Γ
small box.
She opened it. Inside were some dried herbs. “Linda, what’s this?”
“Just some regular spices, Mrs. Newton. It’s nothing. Please let me go this time. For the sake of all the years I’ve worked for the Newtons…”
Linda started crying loudly.
“What’s going on here?”
A cold male voice came from the door.
Everyone looked up. Raymond had returned. And behind him stood a woman.

Agnes froze for a second. Raymond had actually brought Hillary here. They had some nerve.
“I caught Linda stealing om the house.” Agnes said.
Raymond frowned slightly. Tinda, what happened?”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Newton! I’m really sorry! Linda cried. “Mrs. Newton’s supplements always get left over.
“I didn’t want them to go to waste, so I took them to my room and ate them myself. I’m old and not very healthy, so I just wanted something to help my body.
“It would’ve been such a waste to throw them away. I really didn’t mean any harm! I won’t do it again!”
Agnes stared at her in shock. Her acting skill was unbelievable.
Not only did she get herself out of trouble, but she even hinted that Agnes wasted expensive supplements.
This year’s Oscar should have Linda’s name on it.
“Linda,” Raymond said, “you’ve worked for the Newtons for many years. You should know what you should and shouldn’t do.
“Don’t let this happen again. Otherwise, you’ll have to leave.”
“Yes, yes! I understand! I won’t do it again!” Linda said quickly.
She stepped aside, wiping her tears, looking pitiful.
“Raymond, are you serious? She stole from the house! She’s a thief! And you’re just letting it go?”
Agnes’s anger exploded, and her voice shot up.
“She already admitted she was wrong. It was only some food. I’ll have someone buy you more,” Raymond said calmly.
“That’s true, Agnes,” Hillary said softly from behind him. “Linda is old. She was only trying not to waste things. Don’t argue with her.”
“And who are you?” Agnes shot her a sharp glare. “Who said you get to talk here?”
“Agnes… you-”
Hillary froze for a few seconds.
Was this really the same Agnes she knew? The timid, weak woman who was easy to bully?
“What ‘you“?” Agnes snapped. “Who do you think you are, coming into my house and telling me what to
do?”
Hillary was completely stunned. She looked at Raymond for help.
“Agnes, watch your tone,” Raymond said. “Hillary heard you were discharged from the hospital. She came to visit you today.”

Rushed
“Visit me?” Agnes laughed coldly. “Or did you come to see if I was dead yet? Sorry to disappoint you. I’m still alive.”
“Agnes, I’m sorry. I really came to see you. I also wanted to apologize. What happened that day was my fault.
“I shouldn’t have asked Raymond to stay and celebrate my birthday with me…
Hillary started crying, her voice breaking.
Raymond gently patted her back. “It’s not your fault. No one wanted that to happen.”
Rage shot straight to Agnes’s head. These two had the nerve to act like this right in front of her.
“Agnes.” Hillary sobbed, “you can hit me or yell at me if it makes you feel better. Just don’t blame Raymond. He really does care about you.”
