Love After Leaving: No Regret (Agnes and Raymond) novel Chapter 83

Chapter 83 A Lesson in Humility

“Hey-Eden! Don’t go, don’t go. I’ll apologize.”

Looking annoyed, Ursa muttered a barely audible “Sorry” to Imogen.

Eden walked over to Imogen and handed her a pack of tissues.

“Mr. Newton said you’ve been doing a great job. After work today, go to Finance and collec triple pay. From now on, you’ll be in charge of this section.”

Imogen had still been crying, but the moment she heard that, her face lit up. She kept nod and bowing.

“Thank you, Mr. Newton! Thank you! I’ll work hard, I promise! Thank you, thank you!”

Standing nearby, Ursa rolled her eyes. Inside, she was furious. Just wait, I’ll find a way to fire sooner or later.

Eden then led Ursa to the HR office.

Ursa crossed her arms, clearly impatient. “Get me a south-facing office. Make it big. I’m Ms. Newton. I’m not working with lowly people.”

Eden kept his polite smile. “Mr. Newton said your temper needs work. And as a member of Newton Group, you should set an example for others. Everyone is treated the same here.”

He paused, then added, “So you’ll start from the most basic position. This way, please.”

As he spoke, Eden pushed out a janitor’s cart from a storage room and stopped it in front of her.

Ursa froze. She stood there, stunned, like she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Then she screamed, “What is this supposed to mean?! You’re not telling me I have to clean, are you?!”

Eden replied calmly, “No job is above or below anyone. Cleaning is important. It helps maintai the company’s image.”

Ursa kicked the cart away and growled, “Get lost! I’m not cleaning anything! Get out, all of you!”

Eden sighed and stepped back. “Ms. Newton, the choice is yours. I have work to do. Goodbye.”

As Eden walked away, Ursa burst into tears and yelled after him, “Come back! Come back and tell my brother! I’d rather starve than clean! I mean it! Bohoo! Mom, help me!”

She wiped her tears angrily. “And Agnes-this is all your fault! Every time something bad

happens, it’s because of you! Why don’t you just disappear?!”

Crying, she ran out of the building and headed straight for a private hospital.

In the hospital room, Hillary listened as Ursa poured everything out.

The more she heard, the more shocked she became.

Agnes had more power than she thought. Two powerful men-Raymond and Neal-both seemed to revolve around her now. And people around them were getting dragged into tro because of it.

Hillary had underestimated Agnes. She used to think she could push Agnes out of Raymon life with almost no effort.

Now she knew she was wrong. She had to do something and get help from someone.

After calming Ursa down and sending her away, Hillary sat quietly for a moment, thinking. Then she picked up her phone and made a call.

“Dad…”

After returning home, Agnes couldn’t stop thinking about what had happened at the restaura Jillian had slapped herself over and over like she’d lost her mind.

It didn’t make sense. In just one night, her attitude had completely changed. Agnes frowned.

Could it be his doing?

Raymond’s face flashed through her mind. Is it really him?

After what happened with Linda last time, Agnes had thought Raymond didn’t care. That man never said anything.

If Agnes hadn’t seen Linda on the street herself-wandering with her child-she would still be completely in the dark.

The more she thought about it, the more her gaze drifted down to her phone. She had just looked up that restaurant Neal had taken her to.

The food had been amazing. She wanted to take Rebecca there someday. But then she found out the place was reservation-only.

And it was always fully booked. You couldn’t get a table, even if you had money. She couldn’t help wondering, how far in advance had Neal made that reservation?

Agnes hesitated. She was just about to call Neal and ask him how he booked it when her phone

rang. It was Neal.

“Agnes, are you okay?” he asked.

“I’m fine. Thank you,” she said softly.

After last night, Neal had wanted to call her right away. But he was afraid of overdoing it an making her uncomfortable. So, he held back until now.
