No… she couldn't just sit back and wait for her fate to be sealed.
She had schemed and clawed her way into marrying Teague, stopping at nothing, all her life.
Now, with their son grown and decades of marriage behind them, she would not be thrown out just at this time.
What would all her past efforts have been for?
Kathleen took a deep breath, wiped her tears, went upstairs to apply some light makeup, and drove to the Rodriguez family home.
Since the problem started at the anniversary party, and since Teague was clearly trying to get justice for Aberdeen from her, she would start with the Rodriguez family.
If, in the end, Aberdeen herself could be persuaded to talk him out of the divorce, maybe… just maybe… he would change his mind?
It was a beautiful thought, but reality was cruel.
"He won't see me?!" Kathleen's voice shot up. "Did you tell him exactly why I'm here?!"
The housekeeper nodded. "I told him everything."
"And the divorce…" Mentioning such a private matter to a servant was humiliating, a flash of shame crossing Kathleen's eyes, but she knew this wasn't the time for pride.
The housekeeper nodded again. "I told them that too."
"What was their reaction?!"
"Mr. Rodriguez said he won't see you. Mrs. Rodriguez also said… for you to go home, that your family matters have nothing to do with them."
Kathleen nearly ground her teeth to dust.
Not only had they disowned her, but now they were leaving her to her fate, refusing to help.
"Fine. Fine! If they want to be this ruthless, then I don't have to be polite either!"
She spun around to leave.
But after two steps, she stopped, turned back, and asked the housekeeper, "What about Aberdeen? Is she here?"
The housekeeper hesitated.
Now, everyone up and down the old residence knew the old couple had completely cut ties with Kathleen. If she leaked information and something happened as a result, she was afraid…
"What?" Kathleen sneered. "What's this? I ask you a simple question and you start stammering? I'm not dead yet! When I lived here, I treated you well enough, didn't I? Don't be so cold and calculating!"
"Miss Kathleen, I'm sorry, I…"
"Tell me! Where is Aberdeen?!"
