Chapter 111 Plan In Action

I leaned back against the chair, my eyes fixed on the screen in front of me as the numbers continued to
rise.
The preorders for the bag we just teased kept climbing.
It was slow at first, but it was climbing faster than I had expected.
A soft giggle slipped past my lips before I could stop it.
It was working. Everything was working exactly the way I planned it.

I tapped my nails lightly against the table, watching the dashboard refresh again. More orders came rushing through.
The timing had been perfect.

Kate did her job well. I would give her that.
She stole the design herself from Willow. And because of that, we had to move fast. Andrew handled the rest. He coordinated everything on our end, pushing the production, aligning the marketing, and making sure we were ready to drop the moment Fiorane made their move.
We waited patiently.
And the moment their announcement went live, we released ours.
However, it wasn’t just a teaser like theirs. We went further and released the design–the actual product.
Once it was out, once the public saw it first under our name, it would not matter who truly created it.
Perception was everything.
And perception was already on our side,
I smiled at the screen, satisfaction settling deep in my chest.
“It’s going exactly as planned,” I whispered to myself.
Behind me, I heard movement.
I glanced over my shoulder.
Marcus stood by the window, his back facing me, one hand resting against the glass as he stared out at the city below.
The room still carried the aftermath of what we had just done.
Or at least… attempted to do.

I looked at him for a moment, my smile fading slightly.
Our sex had been disappointing–again. He couldn’t even stay hard until the very end.
I stood up and walked toward him slowly. When I reached him, I slipped my arms around his waist, pressing my body against his back.
His abs were firm, but it was not enough.
He wasn’t like his brother. I had seen the new photo of Tristan at the gym with his shirt off, caught by some paparazzi.
It had spread everywhere.
And I wasn’t going to lie—he was fucking delicious.
My grip on Marcus tightened slightly.
Disappointment flickered inside me again.
Marcus was not what I wanted him to be–at least, not anymore.
Still, I rested my chin against his shoulder, forcing my tone to stay light.
“What’s on your mind?” I asked.
He did not answer immediately. Instead, he sighed. Then he nudged my arm away.
My brows furrowed as I stepped back slightly.
What was wrong with him?
He had been like this lately.
Although I wasn’t a hundred percent certain, I felt like I already knew the reason why.
Who could it be other than Willow?
My jaw tightened slightly at the thought.
What was so special about her?
I did not understand it.
୮
Back then, when I first met Marcus, I thought I had secured something valuable. A jackpot.
King Company had been established for years, but our popularity was slipping. Sales were dropping. Engagement was declining.
Along with that, William Florence had become more and more of a problem. He expanded Fiorane quickly and even expanded into our market. Just like that, our numbers started falling.

vowed to myself that once I had the power my parents had, I could not let that happen.
I needed leverage.
I needed something strong enough to pull attention back to us.

I wanted to counter Fiorane with a bag of my own, but I didn’t have a bag design that would stand out- not until Kate and Andrew came to me.
Of course, who was I to refuse their help? I accepted them into the company, but that didn’t mean I valued them. I was still using them just like I used everyone else.
Marcus sighed deeply, pulling me out of my thoughts.
He turned around slowly; when I saw his face, it made me frown.
“I miss Willow,” he muttered.
For a second, I thought I heard him wrong.
My brows snapped together.
“What?”
He looked away, running a hand through his hair.
“I don’t know if I want to continue with this plan,” he added quietly. “If I know she’s just going to be hurt.”
I stared at him, completely still.
What the fuck?
Was he serious?
After everything?
After everything I had done for him?
After everything I was doing for him right now?
He was thinking about her?
I felt something sharp twist in my chest, but I pushed it down immediately.
No.
This was not the time for that.
I needed him.
He was still useful.
I stepped closer to him again, my expression softening just enough.

He was a pawn, and I was not done with him yet.

Once all of this was over once everything fell into place, I would get what I really wanted–to get on the good side of the new owner of Fiorane and to get closer to my real target, Tristan.
My lips curved slightly at the thought.
