Chapter 117 Something To Get Used To

WILLOW

The moment I stepped through the doors, I felt the way people looked at me, the way eyes followed me as I walked past.

Some of them nodded politely as I passed. Others straightened in their seats, suddenly more aware of their posture.

It was expected.

This was what happened when perception changed overnight. When someone they thought they understood turned out to be someone entirely different.

I walked through the hallway without slowing down, my expression neutral.

Some of the same people who used to glance at me dismissively were now avoiding eye contact altogether. Others looked like they wanted to say something, but thought better of it.

I did not hold it against them.

People reacted based on what they knew and what they thought they knew.

If they were incompetent at their work, however-

That was a different matter.

I pressed the elevator button and waited.

A few seconds later, the doors slid

open.

I stepped inside. Fortunately, I was all alone.

I leaned back slightly against the wall, letting the quiet settle around me as the doors began to close. However, they stopped, and the doors slid open again.

Two familiar figures stepped inMillie and Samantha.

Well, it has been a while since I first saw them.

They were definitely moretamed than the last time I saw them. In fact, they even looked ashamed.

They were the same ones who used to whisper when I walked past. The same ones who questioned my position in this company.

I glanced at them briefly.

They were looking down, avoiding my eyes.

As the elevator doors closed again, Millie cleared her throat and spoke.

Congratulations on the launch, Miss Florence.

I turned my head slightly raising a brow.

Her voice sounded really sweet

I always thought it was great, she added quickly.

Samantha nodded beside her, a little too eagerly

Yeah,” she said. It’s the most successful launch of the year. It’s amazing.”

I stared at them silently for a moment. Then I tilted my head slightly.

Why the sudden change?I asked.

They froze.

Just act the way you did before,I continued calmly. I’m used to it.

I let the silence stretch before I spoke again.

Anyway,I said, shifting my gaze back forward, I’m looking forward to the performance review this quarter.

They both went completely still at my words.

I guess Florence will have to increase their competencies even more,I added. Let’s hope you two make the cut.

The elevator slowed, and the doors opened to their floor. However, they couldn’t say another word.

They stepped out quickly, their movements stiff and expressions tight.

I watched them go and even gave them a small back.

They glanced back once, still nervous and shaken. With that, the doors closed, and I couldn’t help it. A small giggle escaped my lips. The tables have definitely turned.

The elevator continued upward, the quiet returning as I leaned back again, letting my thoughts settle.

The doors opened once more, now to my floor.

I stepped out and greeted those who were part of my most trusted team.

Good morning, Miss Florence, someone said as I passed.

Morning,” I replied, nodding slightly.

Then, I saw Rocco standing near one of the design boards, discussing something with a few team members. His posture was relaxed, but there was a spark in his eyes that had not been there before.

He noticed me immediately.

Miss Florence,he greeted.

I smiled faintly.

Rocco,I said.

He had officially stepped into the role of design director.

And it suited him.

The old man was not just reliable. He was actually an artist. He was the one who refined my design, and without him, the launch wouldn’t have been as successful.

Everything is going smoothly,he said.

I know it is,I replied. It’s all because of everyone’s efforts.

He nodded once, satisfied, before turning back to his team.

I continued walking toward my office but stopped right at the door.

Something feltoff. I narrowed my eyes slightly and finally smelled the familiar scent.

I exhaled slowly and shook my head.

I reached for the handle and opened the door, finding Tristan sitting on my chair.

I raised a brow.

What are you doing here?I said, stepping inside and closing the door behind me, sir owner of Hale Enterprises?

He looked up at me.

Are you not aware,I continued, crossing my arms, that our companies are still rivals in sales?

He did not even hesitate.

You win,he said simply.

He stood, and before I could say anything else, he walked straight toward me and pulled me into his arms. He wasted no time in kissing me.
