Chapter 122 Enchanting
MARCUS
I couldn’t sleep again.

I turned to my side, then to the other, the thin mattress beneath me doing absolutely nothing to ease the ache in my back. Every movement only reminded me how much my body had changed in the past two weeks.
And the heat had only gotten more suffocating. I asked someone to install an air conditioning unit for me when I found out each worker had one in their room, but they just gave me a weak fart that barely did anything except push hot air around the room.
I groaned, dragging a hand down my face.
“This is insane,” I muttered.
Sweat clung to my skin, making everything feel worse. My shirt was already damp, and I had long given up on trying to get comfortable.
I sat up abruptly, frustration boiling over as I grabbed my phone.
Tristan.
If anyone could fix this, it would be him. I pressed the call button without thinking twice.
It ran for exactly three times before he answered. However, before I could even speak, I could hear a soft, breathy sound from a familiar voice.
“Tristan, right there,” Willow moaned.
Every muscle in my body locked.
My grip on the phone tightened, dropping to the floor.

“Fucking bastard,” I hissed, running both hands through my hair.
My chest rose and fell unevenly as I stared at nothing, my jaw clenched so tight it hurt.
That fucking bastard was rejoicing while I was here, rotting and breaking my back over cement sacks and
dust.
I let out a bitter laugh, leaning back against the wall as I stared up at the ceiling.
This was a nightmare. However, the biggest difference was that I could not wake up from it.
Two weeks.
I had been here for two weeks.

Lifted my arm slightly, staring at my skin. It was noticeably tanner and rougher than before. There were bruises I did not remember getting. Small cuts on my hands. Faint scars that had not been there before.
I felt like a completely different person.
My father could not do anything. Not with my grandfather controlling everything
And my friends-
I let out a hollow laugh.
What friends?
No one had reached out.
No one had checked in.
No one cared.
I was all alone.
Even Serena’s company was done. Everything her family built collapsed because it was exposed; they copied the products of smaller companies.
Everything came out, and they also had nothing left.
My stomach growled loudly, pulling me out of my thoughts.
I pressed a hand against it, frowning.
I did not even have anything to eat.
“This is bullshit,” I muttered.
I pushed myself up, grabbing my jacket before stepping outside.
The cool night air hit me, pacifying my temper for a second. However, it was not enough to irritation burning under my skin.
I walked aimlessly, my hands shoved into my pockets as I stared ahead.
I hated this place–every part of it.
I wanted to burn it all down, start over, and go back to how things were before.
But I could not. This was my reality now.

I kept walking, not really paying attention to where I was going until I heard the sound of water flowing
from a distance.
I frowned slightly, turning toward the sound.
It was a stream dimly lit by the moonlight. I didn’t know there was something like this here.

Along with the stream, there was the sound of movement.
Someone was here–bathing.
I slowed down slightly, my gaze narrowing as stepped closer.
The silhouette caught my attention immediately. It was soft and feminine, something about it making me stop completely.
The figure shifted and stepped into the light.
With that, I finally saw her–Ariel.
I frowned.
I turned slightly, already planning to leave. I did not need another headache tonight.
But then, a thought crossed my mind.
If I played this right, then things might turn out better for me in the warehouse.
My gaze returned to her.
A slow smirk formed.
Maybe I would not have to suffer as much here if she were
on my side.
I stepped closer. Ariel noticed me almost immediately. Her head snapped up slightly, her brows furrowing as she took me in.
“Marcus?” she asked, sounding surprised.
I stepped into the shallow edge of the stream, the cool water brushing against my shoes as I moved closer.
Her eyes followed me, curious and

but not afraid.
The moonlight reflected off the water, casting a soft glow around her.
Her nightgown was soaked, clinging to her skin and revealing more than it should.
I swallowed slightly before letting my gaze linger,

I thought she was going to crumble under my gaze, but instead, her arms lifted, wrapping around my
neck.
My breath hitched.
