Chapter 123 The Best Man
WILLOW

The moment I saw the result in my hands, everything went quiet. The silence even began ringing in my ears along with my heartbeat, which was louder than everything else.
I stared at the pregnancy test in my hand, unmoving, my fingers tightening slightly around it as though it would somehow change if I held it long enough.
Positive.
My breath caught.
“How…” I whispered to myself.
However, that was a futile question. I already knew the answer!
My mind drifted–uninvited and uncontrollable–to the nights we had spent together. The countless times we had been too lost in each other, too consumed, too caught up.
Tristan and I made love without hesitation and, of course, without any protection more often than not.
I exhaled slowly, pressing my lips together.
This was bound to happen. However, that did not make it any less shocking. I leaned back slightly against

“I’m pregnant,” I murmured.
The words felt unreal. I was not a teenager. This was not some reckless mistake.
I was a full–grown adult–an engaged full–grown adult with a stable career and enough money to raise a child.
And yet, pregnancy still felt like something that would shake everything.
It did have the capacity to change everything.
Not just for me
But for us.
My gaze dropped again to the test in my hand.
We had just gotten engaged a month ago.
We were still in the process of telling everyone. His family had only just found out, too. Everything was still settling into my mind. Oftentimes, I didn’t even feel that it was real.
“Don’t tell me…” I muttered, letting out a quiet, almost disbelieving laugh. “We’re going to have to make
another announcement.”

My chest tightened slightly.
Will he like it?
The thought came suddenly.
I knew Tristan loved me. There was no doubt about that. However, a child and a family were different. That was permanent in a way nothing else was.
I stared at my reflection, my grip tightening slightly around the test.
“What if…” I started, but could not even finish the thought.
The door opened.
“Baby?”
His voice made me freeze.
I slowly turned. Tristan stood there, his expression soft–until his eyes landed on my hand, specifically on the pregnancy test.
He stopped completely, appearing like he recognized it. From the look in his eyes, I was certain he did.
Time stretched, and neither of us moved.
My instincts kicked in, and I quickly moved my hand behind my back. However, it was too late. He had already seen it.
He stepped closer, slow and careful, like I might disappear if he moved too fast.
“Willow,” he said softly.
I couldn’t respond. My heart was still beating too fast, and my thoughts were still too loud. He reached for my hand gently, guiding it from behind my

at it.
In a matter of milliseconds, a wide smile appeared on his lips.
“You’re pregnant.”

The words came out like it was the simplest thing in the world. Before I could process it fully, he suddenly lifted me off my feet, pulling me into him as he placed a kiss on my forehead.
“You’re really pregnant,” he said again, his voice filled with something I had never heard before–pure, unfiltered excitement.
“You’re not mad?” I asked quietly.
He pulled back slightly, looking at me like I had just said something ridiculous.

“Mad” he repeated. “How could I be mad?”
His brows furrowed slightly.
“You can be pregnant with a pack of wolves, and I’ll be happy.”
I processed his words for a second before slapped his shoulder once the thought settled.
“That’s too much.” I said.
He laughed. “I’m serious,” he said, completely unfazed. “We can make a pack of wolves if you want.”
I shook my head, a small smile forming despite everything.
“Absolutely not, Tristan. That’s insane.”
He just grinned, certainty filling his eyes.

“How will this be, though?” I muttered, glancing down slightly. “We’re supposed to have the wedding in eight months. I’d be pregnant by then.”
I exhaled. “I don’t know if we’ll be able to have it as scheduled.
He did not even hesitate as he said the next words. “Then we’ll move it.”
I looked up at him. “What?”
“We can move it next month,” he said.
“Are you insane?” I exclaimed. “We already have everything reserved!”
He shrugged lightly. “Don’t worry about that.”
I narrowed my eyes.
“You can’t just-”
“I’d move the world for you,” he said.
My words stopped.
“And for our baby, too.”
I stared at him and the way his eyes shielded mine, how there was not even a hint of doubt in his expression. I could tell that he meant every word. And somehow, it did not sound ridiculous or impossible coming from him.
I knew of the reason–it was because he had already proven, again and again, that he would do exactly
what he said.
With that, all of the certainties left my mind.
I stepped closer to him, lifted my hands, and cupped his face gently. He leaned into my touch without

I smiled softly and leaned in, kissing him. The sparks that exploded between us were still unreal, even though we had done it plenty of times.
He smiled into the kiss, and I, too, couldn’t help but smile.
Because I knew.
Without a doubt.
