I sat on the couch as I asked the question, watching Kath closely. She was standing in front of the hallway mirror, adjusting the strap of a black dress that hugged her figure perfectly.
She paused before looking at me through the mirror.
“You wouldn’t want to know,” she said with a wink.
I tilted my head to the side, thinking about it for a few seconds before finally realizing what she had said.
I opened my mouth to question her further, but just then the doorbell rang.
Kath slowly turned her head toward the small monitor mounted beside the door.
“Well, well,” she murmured.
She leaned forward to check the screen, and a grin immediately spread across her face.
“It looks like I’m not the only one getting lucky tonight.”
“Huh?” I asked, confused.
Kath was already walking toward the door. She opened it quickly.
And standing there, looking entirely too handsome for a random evening visit, was Tristan.
He held a small box in one hand.
The moment he stepped inside, the sweet smell reached my nose.
Donuts.
My eyes
widened.
How did he know I was craving them?
He stepped inside casually, his gaze briefly sweeping the room before landing on me. But before he could say anything, Kath spoke first.
“Tristan,” she greeted.
“Kath,” he replied with a small bow.
She placed a hand over her heart.
“I don’t think I will ever get used to you looking like that. It feels like I always get a nini heart attack when we make eye contact.”

He raised a brow but didn’t question her statement further.
I groaned quietly from the couch
“Kath.”
She ignored me completely.
“Anyway,” she continued, waving a dismissive hand, “do not worry about me tonight.”
Tristan looked mildly amused.
“I wasn’t worried.”
Kath grinned.
“I have a date tonight.”
She pointed toward me.
“You can have Willow and this space all to yourself.”
My eyes widened.
“Kath!”
“She has been completely blanked out since your interview earlier,” she continued shamelessly.
My jaw dropped.
“Probably because you looked so hot.”
My face burned instantly.
“Kath!”
She shrugged.
“She admitted it a while ago.”
“Kath!” I repeated for the third time, louder already.
Tristan’s lips curved into a slow smile.
I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me whole.
“Well,” Kath said cheerfully, grabbing her purse. “I’d better go.”
She walked toward the door like nothing had happened.
I glared at her.

“You are the worst.”
She winked.
“Have fun.”
And then she disappeared out the door, leaving me alone with Tristan.
He walked over to the living room table and placed the donut box down carefully. My eyes remained stubbornly fixed on the floor, still feeling shy about Kath airing what I had said over afternoon coffee.
He moved closer. I could hear the quiet sound of his footsteps against the floor. I focused very intensely on a random spot on the wall.
“So,” he said casually. “You found me hot again?”
I closed my eyes briefly.
“I did not say that.”
He chuckled softly.
“Not that I don’t already know.”
I sighed and shook my head.
He sat on the far edge of the couch.
“Why would you say that in your interview again?” I asked.
He tilted his head slightly.
“Was I wrong?”
He studied me for a moment.
“You are really worried about this, aren’t you?” he asked gently.
I pressed my lips together.
The truth was… yes.
“I know I should get used to the spotlight,” I said slowly.
He listened quietly.
“Especially if one day I come out as the one who owns Fiorane.”
Saying it out loud still felt strange.
“But…” I continued, exhaling softly. “It still feels new. I don’t know how to process the hate I’m getting when I feel like I didn’t even do anything wrong.
