Chapter 71 New Director
WILLOW
His finger pressed gently against my lips before they could meet his.
My eyes widened in surprise.

We had been so close that I could feel his breath against my skin. The tension between us had been so thick that it felt like the entire room had disappeared.
However, at the very last second, he stopped it.
“What’s wrong?” I muttered softly.
Tristan’s lips slowly curved into a smirk.
“We’re not together yet,” he said calmly.
I frowned slightly.
“And?”
He tilted his head, his gaze steady on mine.
“I don’t kiss those who I’m not in a relationship with.”
I stared at him for a second before letting out a soft scoff.
“Liar.”
His eyebrow lifted.
“You kissed me before,” I said, crossing my arms. “We even had sex.”
The moment the words left my mouth, I felt my cheeks heat up instantly. Why had I said that so bluntly?
Tristan’s smirk deepened. His eyes glinted with amusement, and that only made my embarrassment
worse.
I groaned and rubbed my temple.
“Forget I said that.”
He chuckled quietly.
“That would be difficult.”
I sighed and shook my head.
“Anyway,” he continued, his tone softening slightly. “I’m respecting you.”

That caught my attention. I looked back at him.
His expression was calmer and more serious.

“I know there’s a lot on your mind. Like you said, it hasn’t been a long time since the changes happened in your life,” he said gently. “So I don’t want to confuse you with anything physical.”
My heart skipped slightly. For a moment, I simply stared at him. And then, annoyingly enough, my gaze drifted down to his lips.
Why did he have to look so good right now?
It appeared he had just gotten back from work and probably didn’t have time to freshen up, but he couldn’t have looked better.
The faint smirk still lingered on his mouth. Then, he did something incredibly unhelpful.
He bit his lower lip.
My breath caught, and I quickly looked away.
“Behave.” he murmured.
I glanced back at him.
His gaze was steady.
“Once you’ve made up your mind,” he continued slowly, “and once we’re together…”
He leaned slightly closer.
“I’ll kiss you until you’re breathless.”
My breath hitched.
He straightened again, as if nothing had happened.
“Why did you even come here then?” I muttered quietly.
“I just thought you might want some sweets,” he said casually, gesturing toward the donut box.
“How did you know that I wanted to eat them again?” I muttered.
He shrugged slightly.
“You always end the day with a sweet treat.”
I stared at him. Had he really noticed that?
Before I could say anything else, he stepped back toward the door.
“Good night, Willow.”

And just like that, he left again, leaving my heart as a fumbling mess.

The next morning, the office still felt hostile. The moment I stepped inside, I could feel the stares again.
However, it was not as intense as yesterday. Or maybe I had simply gotten better at ignoring them.
I sighed quietly and walked toward the elevator.
“Willow!”
I didn’t even press the button when Mr. Fawn appeared out of nowhere. And before I could even greet him, he grabbed my arm and pressed the button of the elevator.
He then pressed the floor of the biggest conference room and tapped his foot impatiently as he watched the numbers ascend on the small LED screen.
“What’s happening?” I muttered, confused.
The elevator dinged, and he was already dragging me down the hallway.
“Before he arrives,” he said urgently.
“What?”
My heels clicked rapidly against the floor as I struggled to keep up with his pace.
“Mr. Fawn,” I said breathlessly. “What is happening?”
“Stop talking.”
He pulled me toward the meeting room. The moment we stepped inside, I frowned.
The room was already full. Every seat around the long conference table was occupied with department heads, managers, assistants, and secretaries.
Sitting near the front was Rocco. The moment he saw me, he gave me a small apologetic look.
My confusion deepened.
Mr. Fawn released my arm and motioned for me to stand with the other secretaries along the wall.
I walked over quietly.
The woman standing there glanced at me.
Some of them smiled politely, while others did not bother hiding the jealousy in their eyes.
I ignored them. Instead, I looked around the room again.
