Still, my relationship with Issac remained lukewarm. Whenever we crossed paths at the base, we would simply nod at each other.
But Issac refused to let go.
He pulled me into a corner of the training field.
“Freya, I was wrong, I’m sorry… Can you forgive me?”
He looked at me with hope in his eyes.
I shook my head.
Some scars never fully heal, and a relationship that’s cracked is never truly unbroken. It’s better to keep a distance.
Issac forced a bitter smile. “Alright, as you wish.”
A tear glistened in the corner of his eye.
I knew he was hurt, but I could no longer empathize with him.
This relationship would linger in this awkward, incomplete way–until maybe one day I understood, or perhaps never would.
I’d leave it to time.
