I don’t know when I had fallen asleep, but when I woke up, my body was still tingling as if I had just been electrocuted in 1 most delicious way.

I was aware of everything: the softness of the mattress underneath my naked body, the smooth silk sheet over my skin, ar the warm, salty wind gently blowing inside the room. Eyes closed, I rolled onto my side and curled to fetal position, savoring the peaceful sound embracing me.

I pinched my eyelids tighter before I opened my eyes. The room was bathed in dim light, and it was already dark outside The shell wind chime outside the window jingled softly in tune with the sea breeze.

There was no sign of Beckett in the room, but the sheets were tangled, and the second pillow beside mine had evidence th it had been used.

We slept togethernakedthat thought rang in my head. Warmth crawled from my chest through every part of my body everything that happened between us came rushing back to me. Beckett and I just had an intimate moment inside this room, in this very bed that I was lying on.

I had given him a head, and he just had his face buried between my legs. A groan left my chest as I crawled under the shee

How do I face him? Do we just move on and pretend nothing happened? Then I remembered what he said. There should only be me. I don’t like sharing what’s mine.

What does that even mean? Was it a heat of- themoment kind of thing, or did he really mean that?

[ found myself asking these questions as I pushed off the bed and dressed in a shirt and shorts I had brought with me. The emptation to check the other clothes inside the bag Beckett had for me was strong, but I managed to fight it.

The house was quiet when I walked out of the room. There was no sign of Beckett anywhere, and it’s already time for dinner, so I just busied myself in the kitchen. I found a note on the dining table along with one red rose.

Went for a run. You’re beautiful in your sleep, so I didn’t wake you up. Be back later. -Bthere’s a tiny heart beside his name His neat handwriting and sweet nothings put a smile on my lips. I was humming the whole time I was making dinner.

I baked the salmon I found in the fridge and whisked a quick shrimp pasta. When I was done cooking, and Beckett was still MIA, uneasiness filtered my chest. With my phone in hand, I sat on the wooden chair on the porch and dialed Becker’s number. My shoulders fell when I heard the muffled ring from inside the house.

The sun had already set, and I grew restless as the time passed by. I don’t know the area, and Beckett mentioned there was no store for miles. My mind was starting to tilt on unpleasant things when a figure emerged through the pahn trees from the

beach side.

My feet moved on their own accord, running towards the man who was casually walking on the sand, threw myself at Beckett, and he caught me with a chuckle.

Hey,he steadied us with his sweaty and brawny arms. Miss me that much, huh

Hmhminm,I hummed, burying my face in his chest, bathing in his waterfall scent with a dust of salt and sweat His shirt was damp, and even the tips of his hair were glistening with sweat. Hut I honestly don’t mind. I’m just glad that he’s finally here. I was one second away from a fullblown panic and dialing 911

Dinner is ready,” I informed him as I looked up.

As if we had been doing this for a long time, Beckett planted a peck on my lips. It’s sweet and pleasant, and I suddenly wished we could be like this forever.

Yeah?Beckett wrapped his shoulder around mine as we walked inside the house. The sand was soft under our feet, and the wind was rushing through our skin. I’ll grab a quick shower first,he said once we stepped inside the house. Unless you want to join me?he wiggled his eyebrows, and I couldn’t help giggling.

Don’t push your luck, mister.I said, biting my lower lip as Beckett released me.

His smirk was knowing because he knew that one flick of his finger and he’d have me on my knees.

I prepared the table while he was in the shower, my hips moving to the RnB tune playing on the speaker. The seashell curtains in the kitchen made pleasant music as the night fell deeper. The temperature was slowly plummeting, and I realized why there was a fireplace in one corner of the living room.

I started to make fire when a knock on the door rumbled through the tranquility of the night. I frowned, wondering who would knock on the door. We were in an isolated area after all, so I thought that must be the wind and focused on making the fire. But when another three raps rocked the door, I glared at the door and debated if I should see who it was.

The knocks sounded impatient for the third time, so I grabbed the fire iron and gripped it steadily as I went to open the door. My blood ran cold when I saw who was on the porch. The same maid who visited me the previous week, the same man who was supposed to be in prison. My grip on the fire iron tightened. My molars grind as I pinned him with a surprised, guarded, and probing gaze.

How did you find me?I said through gritted teeth, taking in his strange appearance.

He wasn’t wearing his dark clothes that cloaked his face. He was in a light blue camisa de chino, faded pants, a straw hat hid his curls, and he was holding a basket of fruit. This wasn’t how I pictured seeing him again. In fact, this was probably the most presentable look I had ever seen on him, even before he went to prison. Like he was human and not a monster.

He smirked at me; his sharp eyes made my stomach twist. Then his gaze dropped on the fire iron I was holding, and he bared his yellowish teeth in a grin. Surprise, surprise, little pest.

You made it,Beckett chimed from inside the house. His welcoming, gleeful tone creased my forehead. He addressed my father as if they were friends.

My father’s glower morphed into a sweet smile. Have you ever seen Freddy Krueger’s smile? That’s how he looked. Here’s the basket we talked about, even his tone was sickeningly tranquil.

Beckett was already behind me, and he tossed an arm around my shoulder. I see you’ve met my girlfriend. This is And Andi, this is Matias. I met him on my run. He’s the caretaker at the beach house next to ours.

I couldn’t force myself to smile at my father. There’s something scary about the way he’s smiling timidly at Beckett, like a beast masking himself as a puppy.

It’s nice to meet you, ma’am.My stomach hollowed at how he addressed me. Mr Hale told me you like fruits? He raised the fruit basket in front of me, and I wanted to puke all that I ate from lunch in that very same basket.

I don’t want that. You can leave now,I snapped, the fire iron trembling in my hand.

Andi?Beckett frowned down at me. He wore a frown, confused and so freaking oblivious of the rage that boiled inside me.

I squared my shoulder and grabbed the basket from my father. Leave. Now.

Andi,” Beckett chuckled nervously. That’s not how we treat our guests
