I walked out of Andi’s room with my heart lodged in my throat. I dragged my feet towards the window where I sneaked in, my gaze drawn towards Andi, taking in the expression on her face.
She had the right to be mad at me. My jealousy had clouded my judgement, and I realized how unfair I had been. I know Cole. He would never take a woman without her consent, and Andi doesn’t strike me as someone who would cheat or who would come after Cole for money. Why did I ever think so badly about her?
I deserved that fiery gaze. I deserved the death she’s planning for me in her head. And above that, she looked rather sad than hurt, and I hate that I caused that.
With a heavy breath, I slipped out of the window and closed it behind me. I walked away from the house with the sting of our conversation still hangs heavy over my head.
I’d screwed up big time. I shouldn’t have come at her like that, all accusation and jealousy, acting like some bruised, possessive idiot. I wanted nothing more than to turn around, crawl back into her bed, and kiss away her anger. But I knew that wouldn’t work. Andi’s stubborn as hell–she doesn’t bend to anyone’s will. Hell, her stubbornness was one of the reasons I was drawn to her.
The air outside cooled my skin. I parked my car across from Andi’s house, but I walked past it towards the white van parked in the next house. Reed and Jack were on duty tonight. I got four people who surveyed Andi’s house round the clock, and they should’ve been invisible, but somehow Andi had spotted them. I still don’t know how she sensed them, but there’s no undoing what she knows now.
Inside the van, Reed looked away from the wide–screen attached to the van’s wall. The preview from Andi’s CCTV cameras was shown on the screen. Reed’s expression flickered from surprise to concern. Jack, from the driver’s seat, gave me a curt salute. They’ve been working for the Maldini family since they were teenagers. Reed, Jack, Cole, and I grew up together, and they’re more like brothers than employees.
“Hey, Beckett,” Reed greeted with a crease in his thick eyebrows. He’s got that afro hair, chocolate skin, and well–defined muscles that are almost ready to rip his black shirt and jeans. “What’s up?”
There’s a half–empty pizza box in front of him, alongside a cup of coffee. I slumped into the seat beside him and pinched the bridge of my nose. “You guys are burned,” I muttered.
Reed shot Jack a look. Jack, the one with thin eyes, pale skin, and a skinny body, twisted around, eyebrows raised, “She
knows?”
I nodded my head, letting out a humorless laugh. “She does. She just asked me to pull you guys out.”
Jack’s jaw tightened. “Is it safe to do that?”
1 hesitated, My instincts screamed to keep the security guards in place, but I’d already crossed a line by not telling her about them. “Did you find anything suspicious this week?”
Reed shook his head. “Apart from Andi coming home just to change clothes, there’s nothing unusual.”
1 frowned at Reed, “Why hasn’t anyone told me about that?”
They exchanged glances, and Jack answered. “You told us to watch out for paparazzi and anyone suspicious, and Andi is not suspicious.”
I leaned back, running a hand through my hair. “Something is up with her. She took a part–time job at Cole’s club.”
Chapter 118
Reed’s frown deepened. “Why would she need a part–time jok
“Exactly?” I raised my hand in exasperation. I remember Andi’s face when she asked me how I would tract of the sock $100,000 from the card I gave her. The answer was on the tip of my tongue. I don’t give a shit, but I confident way tour to her while we were having our first argument as boyfriend and girlfriend.
Neither Reed nor Jack provided a comment. They didn’t have to. I just sat there for a while, the weighs of my cre pressing down hard, wishing like hell I could fix things with Andi without making them worse
“What do you need us to do now?” Reed asked.
“I don’t know. How do you suggest we watch over her without making it obvious?” I needed their opinion became Its ok t the right headspace for making decisions right now.
“I have an idea,” Reed said, then looked in Jack’s direction. “But you won’t like it.”
Jack?” I asked.
Reed nodded.
“Oh no,” Jack murmured. “Hell no. You do it if you want to!”
“Why?” I pressed, curious. “What is it?”
‘You’re the one with a friendly face, dumbass,” Reed snapped. “Have you looked at Dean and me? Luna will kill us if we ever live under one roof with her.”
Dean and Luna were the second team who watched over Andi’s house. Dean was from Mexico, and Luna was from Puerto Rico, who hates Dean and Reed’s guts.
Wait… what?” I cut in. “Live on one roof?”
“Yes,” Reed sighed. “The couple down the block had knocked on this van yesterday, demanding that we leave the premises because they think we are spies. Now, Dean had this great idea of posing as husband and wife with Luna, but Luna said she would kill Dean if he suggested that again.”
‘Hmm,” I hummed. “That’s actually a good idea.”
“No!” Jack snapped. “I have a girlfriend, and if she finds out-”
“No one will find out,” I assured Jack. “Besides, if she did find out, I could just talk to her.”
Jack shook his head. “You haven’t met her, boss. She’s…” he visibly shivered. “If I do this, you’ve gotta give me a raise.”
I chuckled. “A raise, really?”
“Yes!” Jack insisted. “I gotta bribe her so she won’t kill me.”
“Fine,” I dismissed. I haven’t met Jack’s girlfriend, but he’s lucky he can bribe her. I wish I could do the same with Andi. How simple would my problem be? I had given Andi an entire bank account, and she still won’t touch a penny of it.
After we finalized the plan with Jack and Luna, I went to After Hour to meet with Cole. I needed answers, and if I can’t get them from Andi, I will get them from the man involved in her little working escapade.

Cale went as the parking lot by midnight. I didn’t want to be seen inside his club, where he meets with his business partners. It‘ delved into the family business like Cole, and I want it to stay that way.
Cale found me leaning against one of the bikes parked in the parking lot. There’s a long line of people waiting to get He the dub, and the muffled bass coming from the back door drummed as Cole stepped out. “What’s up?” he asked
I reminded myself to keep my tone in check. “You didn’t tell me Andi took a part–time job here?
Cole shoved his hand in his pocket. “She asked me not to.”
My jaw clenched at his dismissive tone. “A heads–up would be nice, Cole.”
He nired his head to the side, and the low light from the building illuminated the curiosity on his face. “Ind you have fight

He didn’t have to guess. He just knows it. Despite the years that I had avoided him, he could still read me like the bank of ba hand. “Someone sent me a picture of you and her.”
He chuckled. It was humorless and annoying. “You thought she would cheat on you? That’s crazy, Beck. That woman is near over heels for you. She won’t give me the time of day when she hated you, much less now that she’s into you.”
I should have talked to Cole first. Maybe then he could shed some light on this anger that ate me up. Maybe Andi wouldn’t be so mad at me.
“You’re right,” I sighed. “But I don’t get why she needs a part–time job,” I said. “She has my money for her own disposal
She wouldn’t be Andi if she touched your money, Beck. That’s one reason you liked her, right?”
1 hummed a yes. “Something is off with her. Can you find out what it is? Or why does she need the money?”
“Yeah,” Cole nodded. “You should have talked to me first, man.”
