“I said leave!” Beckett shoved me in the chest. His force was strong enough to throw me to the middle of the room, his eyes blazing like a dragon ready to breathe fire.
Slumped on my ass, hands splayed on the hardwood floor to keep myself from tumbling over, I glared back at Beckett.
“You know, I was honestly worried about you, but I can see that no amount of blood can change your arrogance,” I spat. My chest hurt from his push, but my ego had taken a heavy blow.
“I don’t need your help. What part of ‘don’t get in my way‘ didn’t you understand?” he said, rising to his feet and going toward the ensuite, putting his hand under the faucet.
I crawled to my feet, gathering myself together. I shoved past him into the ensuite, grabbing the first–aid kit from the hidden shelf behind the mirror. He was simmering as he watched me open the first–aid kit.
“What the fuck are you still doing here?” His voice was even more menacing inside the ensuite. His displeasure bounced off the four tiled corners of the room, deafening me.
“Are you blind?” I shot back. “Don’t you know what I’m doing?” I grabbed his wounded hand, and he slapped my hand away.
“The fuck is wrong with you?” he asked, confused and furious that I was not following his orders.
I sighed and looked him straight in the eye. “I can ask you the same thing. Why can’t you just be a normal human being?”
Maybe I shouldn’t respond to him with an attitude. Perhaps I should just tell him that leaving him bleeding won’t let me sleep in peace. His wounded hand would haunt me in my dreams.
Coming here was a mistake. Staying here when he’s practically throwing me out the door was an even bigger mistake. And ooking in his pretty gray eyes was just plain stupidity.
He was standing so close that I could smell his waterfall body musk. His day–old stubble dusted his chin and jawline, the awline that is sharp enough to cut me in half. There’s a tsunami of emotions on his face. Annoyance, confusion, and
musement bottled in one.
Why can’t you just be a normal chick who should’ve been crying by now, packing her bags and crawling back to her nommy’s lap?” His voice was calmer than before. Still strained and irked, but a little more amused.
‘Because I’m not,” I said, reaching for his hand again. His hands were still stiff. I had no doubt that slapping my hand crossed his mind again, but he allowed me to pry his fingers open. “I’m not a normal girl. I’m Super Andi.”
He snorted at my joke, catching himself before he fell into a fit of laughter. I giggled, though, remembering Caleb, Whenever we were both mad and I had to use being a big sister to win a conversation, I would always say I am Super Andi, ind there’s nothing he can do about it.
had done this over a million times on Caleb, and I don’t know why my hands were trembling as I cleaned his wounds and checked for stray shards of glass. It must be because I was holding Beckett’s large hands. His skin was soft, but the tips of his ingers were calloused from throwing baseballs. It could also be from his eyes watching me intently. I could feel his gaze searing into my face and hands as I carefully dabbed wound solution on his cuts. To finish off the job, I placed Band–Aids over the four cuts on his palms.
“There, done,” I said and cleaned up the mess I made on the counter. He remained standing beside me, watching me with hawk eyes. “What?”
“This won’t change anything,” he said pointedly. He was back in that nasty, annoying tone of his.

I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes. “Wouldn’t dream of it, boss. You can continue to make my life miserable tomorrow.”
He let out a low rumble of a laugh. It was a pleasant sound, something I never thought I would hear. I paused and blinked at him. Is this what he meant by ‘this won’t change anything‘? Because he’s definitely a different person from the guy who gave me that crazy shopping list.
Tension grew between us as our gazes collided. The air crackled, bursting into beautiful colors of fireworks on the Fourth of July. His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down; I swallowed the lump in my throat. His blazing eyes skimmed my face, like his fingers would if he were to touch me. The temperature suddenly skyrocketed. Sweat moistened my palms and the bottom. of my spine.
In my periphery, Beckett’s hand moved. I think he was ready to touch my face, but I cleared my throat before he could lift it halfway.
‘Uhm, I need to clean the mess you made,” I pinched my eyes shut because of the innuendo in my statement.
He let out a low growl, stepping away from me. I felt a sense of disappointment as he put distance between us. I thought I was already breaking through his arrogant barrier.
‘Yes, do your job,” he snapped.
pursed my lips and skirted past him, unintentionally brushing my hand against his. I gasped. My heart was doing karate :hops in my chest. I quashed whatever emotions were blooming inside me, because like he said, ‘This changes nothing.
‘Babe?” A woman’s voice echoed in the room when I stepped out. She switched the light on, blinding me as the fluorescent overhead flickered on. “What the fuck?” she snapped, her voice soft even in her surprised state.
My eyes needed a moment to adjust to the beaming light in the room. Beckett’s huge frame loomed behind me as he
merged from the ensuite.
The woman standing by the door was the most stunning woman I had ever laid eyes on. She’s tall, easily standing 5’11” vithout those skyscraper stilettos. Perfectly styled dark hair cascaded over bare shoulders, blue silk dress hugging curves
obody could ignore.
she looked rather familiar. I might have seen her in magazines and on social media before. It’s easy to figure out that she’s not an ordinary girl.
der almond eyes were trained on me. Blazing and burning me on the spot.
What the hell is this?” She cast her furious gaze at me and back at Beckett.
frowned, then it dawned on me that she had caught Beckett and me stepping out of the bathroom simultaneously. She nust be someone special in my boss’s life. She wouldn’t dare enter this house if she weren’t.
Becket?” She demanded an explanation.
wanted to speak up, but she was already so furious that she didn’t see straight.
‘She’s no one,” Beckett murmured, shoving me aside as he walked further into the room. His cold demeanor wasn’t new b ne, but I couldn’t help the sting that blanketed my chest when he said that.
‘She won’t be in your room if she’s a nobody.” She wasn’t accepting any explanations. I’ve heard this kind of tone and
conversation before.
She thinks I am stealing her man
“She’s the new maid,” Beckett said simply. “You can leave now.” He turned to me as if I were a fly he was ready to swar 2/3

With my head hung low, I walked toward the door. Soft hands wrapped around my forearm before I walked out. I was met with determined almond eyes when I looked up.
“You’re fired,” she said, as if she were the queen of the world. She stood like a queen; she looked at me like a queen would at her disciple, but she had better learn that not everyone will bow down to her.
I snatched my arm from her grip. “You can’t fire me. You’re not the one who hired me,” I snapped back, smirking to myself when her plump, red lips hung open, her eyes filled with disbelief.
“How… how dare you-” I heard her say, but I was already walking away, leaving her speechless.
