Maid For Beckett Catching The Baseball Legend’s Heart novel Chapter 138

Luna, wait!I called, jumping out of the passenger seat, chasing Luna on the walking path. But she was already halfway down the block. For someone who’s almost the same height as me, she walks fast.

A shooting pain struck my head, making me halt in my tracks. The doctor said I would be lightheaded in the coming days and listed several other symptoms to note. I didn’t listen. I never listened to the doctor. I got that stubbornness from mom, and I took a mental note to change that.

my

I had to brace myself on the side of the car to steady myself and watch Luna as she headed for the SUV parked on the curve. Squinting my eyes through the blinding light of the sun, I realized Luna was headed to the same SUV from the abandoned warehouse, the same one where Beckett slipped out.

How long had he been following us? Or did he wait for us to come home? Whatever it was, I squared my shoulders and turned my back on them.

Even if Luna told me he isn’t married to Sloane, I still need time to gather my thoughts, and that would be impossible if I were around him.

I headed into the house with a pounding headache. The light was hurting my eyes. I had to squint until I was under the canopy of our veranda. Everything was a blur from that moment. I was unaware that I had pressed the doorbell until the door opened, revealing my very worried mom.

Andi!she gasped, removing the distance between us in one giant leap, and threw her arms around my neck.

Her tears wracked her body, shaking me as she trembled in a cacophony of surprise, delight, and worry.

How are you?She pulled away and held me steady by my shoulder, her blue eyes roaming over my face and body, checking me for injuries. Are you hurt anywhere? Should I call 911?

I shook my head. No, Mom. I already saw the doctor and went to the police station,I murmured, feeling lightheaded once

more.

She doesn’t look surprised. Beckett was updating her, I’m sure of that, but no message could completely erase her worry for my safety.

L… I told Beckett I wanted to be there when they get you, but he insisted that I would only be in the way,Mom grumbled, like a child telling her teacher she wasn’t allowed to play on the playground.

He’s right, Mom,I tossed an arm around Mom’s shoulder, urging her toward the inside of the house.

She followed suit, wrapping an arm around my waist, too. We both stopped when my stomach grumbled as we crossed the living room. Our laughter filled the house, and Caleb rushed through the hallway with his earphones still hanging from his

ears.

Andi!Caleb gushed, his huge frame shaking the entire house as he ran to me and wrapped those brawny arms around me.

Mom stepped aside and let my brother have his time dealing with his emotions. Caleb might be a big boy now, but he’s still my baby brother.

You’re here,” Caleb murmured. You’re okay.

Caleb’s embrace reminded me I have to be the strong Andi in this house. I can’t let him see the bruises from my kidnapping. I can’t let him see how this event ruined me inside out.

65 Youchers

Hmm.I bummed, rubbing my arms up and down his back. Stop crying, you big baby. I’m fine, okay?I forced a big smile, and luckily for me, my stomach knew exactly the right time to growl like a beast.

That out through the solemn tension between the three of us. It was just past lunchtime, and Mom shook her head. I prepared your favorite, she said. I’ll heat it up for you.

Mom went to the kitchen, leaving my brother and me in the living room. Caleb cast a glance at Mom, waited until she was busy in the kitchen, before he cast a knowing glance my way. What happened? Did you know who took you?

This was the downside of running away from Beckett. I had no idea what Mom and Caleb knew or what I should be telling them

I sank into the couch and shook my head. I’ve already filed a report.

Caleb sat down with me, both of us staring at the dark screen of our television. I had only been gone for one day, yet I felt like Caleb had grown twice since I last saw him. His legs were spread wide, but his thighs were longer than mine already. He had built muscle in his arms and thighs, and he gained weight because the side of the couch I’m sitting on was higher than his side.

Beckett told me, Andi, Caleb murmured, his voice low and quiet. They’re looking for your kidnapper.”

I tilted my head at my brother. I could hear the hush song playing on the headphones hanging around his neck. They are, and the authorities too.

Caleb nibbled his lower lip, contemplating. If it hadn’t been for Beckett, Mom would have lost it, Andi,Caleb revealed. I didn’t need to know how Beckett took care of my family, but I can’t tell Caleb that. He idolizes Beckett, and after what happened to me, Caleb had formed a newfound adoration for him.

I took note of this revelation. I don’t plan on hiding from Beckett forever, and at some point, I have to thank him for everything he’s done for me.

The food is ready, Andi,Mom called, and she asked Caleb if he wanted a plate too.

It was only two in the afternoon, and Caleb excused himself and went to his room, leaving Mom and me at the dining table,

Can you tell me what happened?” Mom carefully pried as she watched me eat my food slowly.

I know the Alfredo pasta Mom prepared was delicious, but I don’t have much of an appetite to appreciate the food in front of me.

I told her snippets of what happened to me, leaving out the part about Lucasdemand for Beckett to marry Sloane, I don’t know how to tell Mom everything without triggering her anxiety and depression again, so I kept my story simple.

Mom doesn’t look satisfied, but she didn’t press on it.

I took a longass shower until I couldn’t smell the mold, rust, and dust in that dark room anymore, I stayed under the shower until my skin crumpled, until the hot water was gone, until I could feel myself again.

After taking a shower, my phone vibrated on the table as I patted my hair dry with a towel.

It was a message from Beckett. I’m here, baby girl. I’ll wait until you’re ready.
