Maid For Beckett Catching The Baseball Legend’s Heart novel Chapter 154

Chapter 154

-Andi-

For a moment, I forgot where I was when I woke up. The sheets covering my body were too soft, and I couldn’t smell Mom’s favorite lavenderscented fabric conditioner. The room was too bright, and it was already hurting my eyes. I squeezed my eyes shut before forcing my eyelids to open, then I realized I was indeed somewhere else.

The voile hanging from the ceiling to the floor was too thin; then I realized the ceiling was too high, too. I wasn’t in the house, nor at Beckett’s pool house. I was in their family’s hotel. Then a faint smell of coffee hit my senses. That’s when what happened last night came rushing at me.

Beckett. He stayed there that night, but he stayed in the room next to mine. He didn’t insist on sleeping beside me, and I don’t know where I should be sad or grateful for his sudden desire to be a gentleman.

I lay still, staring at the warm morning light filtering through the sheer curtains. I might not be able to see it, but I can already sense the city moving below, the traffic and the heat of the summer sun.

My mind was frozen somewhere between last night and this morning, replaying Beckett’s words to me last night at the stadium and after dinner. Every conversation I had with Beckett since our chaotic first date was deep and meaningful, but last night stood out.

Marriage is not in my vocabulary, Andrea Wilson… until three months ago.

Your place is herewith me

I bit the inside of my cheek. Maybe last night was just a dream. Why would Beckett drop hints like that, like he really likes me, that he cares for me?

The penthouse has four rooms, and Beckett said he’d stay in the one beside mine, so when I decided to finally drag my body out of my bed, I couldn’t kill this pulsing urge to see if Beckett was still in his room.

My heart dropped when his bed was made and empty. He had already left, and I was longing to have more time with him.

I leaned on the door of his room, shaking my head at my troubled emotions. I am terrified and longing to see him, and it’s maddening,

Why?I just want to. I kind of missed him, too. My senses came to life when I smelled the brewing coffee in the kitchen. But he wasn’t in there; instead, a very blond, tall, and slim supermodel was making breakfast.

Lila?My voice was still broken with sleep, and she turned to me, a spatula raised in her left hand.

Andi!she gushed, calling me forward to give her a hug. She can’t leave behind whatever she was making in the kitchen, so I happily obliged,

Like her brother, Lila got that signature towering Maldini height, and she looked cute in that pink Ponporin apron wrapped

around her waist.

I had to admit, not seeing Beckett here pinches my chest, but Lila was the perfect substitute for my temporary roommate last night.

You didn’t tell me you’re coming here!Lila’s voice was too cheery for my still sleeping body. I had to hear it from big bro,she pursed her lips, feigning her annoyed tone.

I didn’t know I was coming here until yesterday.Even if she wasn’t demanding an explanation, I still offered her one.

Oh, no worries,Lila waved a hand at me as she turned back to the breakfast the was making, She had two pass on the induction cooker; one had simmering bacon, and the other had pancakes on the already had a place of toasted bread on the kitchen island. Beckett was all doom and gloom yesterday, no wonder he snapped out of his mewy game becane you

came.

Oh,I nodded and went to the coffeemaker, pouring myself a cup. You want one?

Yes, please,she murmured.

You didn’t have to come so early to make me breakfast,I commented.

She told me not to help her make breakfast, even when I offered. She warned me that I was a visitor in their hote

Oh, Mom and I are staying here at the hotel too, and Mom had an early meeting when Recken told me you’re here. I volunteered to have breakfast here, she said without a pause, bouncing on her heels. Come to think of it, Lila was resting a vintage shirt, shorts, and house slippers. She was just staying next door.

So, how are you feelingshe trailed off, after you were kidnapped?she asked as soon as we were seated at the dining table. She filled her plate with bacon. For someone who was as slim and hot as Lila, the didn’t count the calories the was ingesting.

Weird,I admitted. I thought I was gonna die, so when I got out, I didn’t know how to feel about life.Lila wasn’t Eke Siobhan. Siobhan saw me at my lowest point, but there was something about Lila that made me confide in her honestly,

She doesn’t look bothered about what I said, though. She simply shrugged her shoulders, as if I had just told her about the weather today. I understand, and you have to talk to someone, or you’re gonna spiral I know, I did.

I gasped as what she said sank in. You did?

She hummed. My family is not your regular family, so it comes with a few people who don’t really like us. Like Sloane to you.”

That was not easy to process, but looking at Lila, she was talking about her kidnapping experience as if it were another shopping spree. I wish I were as calm as she is, because when people ask me about how I feel, there’s still this nervousness cracking inside me.

Ohh, before I forget, she stood up, still as jolly as ever. Beckett left this for you.

She took a brown box from the living room. There was a note attached to the top of the box. Uhm, thanks,I said, setting the box on the empty chair beside me, but Lila’s bluegray eyes were focused on me, and she was biting her lower lip.

What?I frowned at her, chuckling nervously.

Lila was really acting weird. She’s like a kid waiting for the right time to open the Christmas present. Open it

I giggled. I’m still having breakfast,” I reasoned, shaking my head.

She sighed, her shoulders slumping. Come on, open it. Did you know my brother doesn’t really give us gifts? Nana was an exception.

I raised an eyebrow and languidly set my cutlery down and reached for the box. Beckett doesn’t give gifts? But he’s already given me so much. The phone, the laptop, my car, even the house where we live right now, all of those are gifts. No wonder Lila was excited to open this box, even if it wasn’t hers.

I read Beckett’s neat writing on the note on top.

See you at the game later. -B

There was nothing sweet or surprising about that note, but it was handwritten. It’s the effort that counts.

Inside the box was Beckett’s jersey No. 22, Brighton Reapers, blue and white jersey. Then Beckett’s surname was in huge capital letters on the back. On top of his jersey was a VIP ticket to the game later

Can I see?Lile asked, rubbing her hands together. So I raised the jersey and showed it to her. Her eyes sparkled with excitement when she saw it. Ohh, that’s so sweet. You need to wear that later.

It wasn’t the first time I was gonna wear Beckett’s jersey, but the first time I went to Beckett’s game wearing his jersey, the ending wasn’t pretty. Sloane and Carter made my life hell. I still haven’t gotten over that.

I’m going,I said, dropping the jersey in my lap as my shoulder sagged, but I can’t wear this.

What? Why?Lila pressed, a crease forming on her forehead. Do you know how many women would kill to have my brother’s jersey and be his guest at his game?

And that’s exactly my point,I paused. Those words were meant to be a rambling in my head only, but Lila heard them, along with my petrified tone.

She recoiled as though she heard me throw a fit for the first time. Those perfectly curled eyelashes fluttered as she blinked at

  1. me.

Sorry,I sighed, flopping into my seat as I reached for my fork and played with the maple syrup on my plate. I didn’t mean to sound so repulsed by being your brother’s guest. I just don’t want people’s attention on me.”

Because of Sloane,Lila added. She wasn’t asking questions, but pinpointing what was really bothering me.

My brother cannot control what that crazy bitch would do, Andi. But I hope you see that he’s trying to make things right by you.

I couldn’t form a response because Lila’s genuine concern for her brother wrapped every word she murmured. And she had just knocked some sense into me. I had been putting the blame on Beckett when all he did was protect me from Sloane and all the haters that had been trolling me on the internet.

When Lila left, I had nothing else to do but think about the game tonight. I left the hotel, walked the streets, just to get my mind off things because I feel like I would go crazy in that Maldini tower. I tried to focus on what this city had to offer, but it felt like I was a walking shell. My mind was still on Beckett and my conversation with Lila.

When I went back to my room, I set Beckett’s jersey on the bed and just stared at it for a long moment. The blueandwhite fabric, with his name in block letters across the back. It wasn’t just a jersey. It was Beckett who asked me to be with him in front of everyone, without apology,

TOPUR

I thought about Sloane. I thought about the last time I wore this, and how quickly everything unraveled. But I also thought about what Lila just said that Beckett couldn’t control what a person like Sloane would do. That all he had been doing was trying to protect me, to care for me.

I picked it up and pulled it over my head.

When Lila knocked on my door that afternoon, she froze in the doorway for half a second before a wide grin broke across her face. She didn’t say anything. She didn’t have to,
