“Beckett,” I murmured against Beckett’s chest. Our legs tangle, my cheek resting on the beat of his heart as I stare at the ring on my left hand.

We were still in the echo of our engagement, and I don’t think any of us is gonna be able to sleep after this. This night has been too perfect, and I don’t want it to end.

“Hm?” I feel the shallow blow of his breathing over my head. His hand was on my arm, rubbing up and down, up and down. His touch was calming, grounding.

“You’re my fiancé now,” I said, my voice was just barely a hum. I was afraid that I might spook this happiness that’s bubbling in my chest.

“Hmmm,” he hummed. “And you’re mine,” he murmured. The dimness of the room made this conversation overly personal, too freaking intimate, which scares the shit out of me. “Mine to protect, to cherish and love.”

I looked up at him. He’s staring straight at the ceiling, nothing but certainty in his gray eyes. He looked down at me, planting a kiss on my forehead. “And I am yours.”

I can’t help the giddy feeling that erupted in my chest. I bit my lip, cheeks growing beet red. “Is that your Vow?”

He smirked, his chest puffing. “And I see that you like that.”

I rolled over until I could fold my arms over his chest, gazing at him fondly. “What if I do?”

“That’s good then,” he pushed my hair away from my face and tucked it behind my ears. “I want you to be my wife.”

I blinked at him, confused. I set my chin down on top of my knuckles and pouted at him. “I am gonna be your wife. Isn’t that the meaning of this ring?”

He shook his head. “I want you to be my wife next week.”

I gasped, my throat clogging up again. “Ne… next week?”

A smile stretched his lips as his eyes crinkled. He might not have gotten that response when he popped the question earlier, and I see that he enjoyed that very much. “Yes. Is that gonna be a problem?”

“Problem?” I bit my lower lip, my mind going a hundred miles per hour now. “There are a lot of things we need to prepare for a wedding. There’s the matter of my dress, my Mom, and Caleb, your sister… uh.. She’s gonna kill us if she doesn’t get an input on our venue and reception.”

From the time I spent with Lila, I see that she’s a planner. And she loved her brother too much to let that slide.

Now that he laid that out, I realized that he was serious about this. I had to crane my neck so i condd see R him from a different perspective.

“Why the rush?” I asked. “Is your family gonna be okay with that?”

It’s not that I don’t want to be married to him already, but he’s Beckett Hale, Just his name already bears a heavy responsibility, not just for himself, but for his career and his family. There are many things in his life that are much more complicated than mine. Me? I’m just a girl who’s gonna be in the white dress. Yeople will forget me as soon as the next issue comes up.

“As I said, the only important ones are you and me, no one else,” he explained. “My family will understand our decision.” He made sure there was an emphasis on ‘our decision‘ At least he wasn’t shoving aside my opinion, and I must say, that meant a lot for me.

“Is it okay if we sleep on it? I want to clear my head first,” I admitted. “This has been an amazing night, Beckett and I don’t want to mess it up by saying something I am not sure about yet.”
