Chapter 179
Chapter 179
-Andi-
1 smell the wildflowers and freshly cut grass through the crisp morning air. My eyes were closed as I stood at the door frame of the balcony, the sunlight bouncing on my skin. It was warm, but not as warm as this happiness blooming in my heart.
Today is a good day. Today is gonna be perfect, I thought as I took another lungful of fresh air. Then I opened my eyes, gaze falling on the lawn where there was an aisle dotted by white roses on each side, leading to a makeshift altar in front of it. On top of it was an arch that Lila crafted with her bare hands, draped with fresh blooms she’d insisted on picking herself.
There were five chairs on each side of the aisle, bound by white linen knotted in a ribbon on the back. Those ten chairs below looked too little for someone as massive as Beckett Hale, the baseball superstar, but it felt exactly right. Lila had given me an earful when I told her Beckett, and I decided to get married last Monday, saying she couldn’t pull off arranging a wedding in that short amount of time.
I’d say she was lying. She did a pretty good job of putting everything together.
Our location was Jace’s family–owned ranch just outside the city. It was a tactic to evade the media from getting a whiff of Beckett Hale’s secret wedding to a mystery girl.
Behind me in the room, my mom was smoothing the fabric of my dress with shaking hands. She was shocked at first when I told her Beckett and I were gonna get married soon, but she came around quickly.
Caleb, tapping his feet on the floor every second, hovered at her side, pretending not to watch me but failing miserably. He took the news better than Mom. In fact, he told me he couldn’t wait for Beckett to be his real big brother now.
I know Caleb would rather peek at his phone, take pictures with Jace and Beckett, so he could brag about it to his friends. It was a struggle to make him agree that no pictures of this wedding should be posted until after a month.
Mom’s eyes glistened as she lifted her gaze to me from the bed. “I used to think you’d be too scared for this,” she whispered, her voice dreamy. “After everything… after your father-”
I shook my head no, crossed the room and sat down beside her. My white robe had ‘bride‘ embedded on the back in cursive letters. Lila said this is the one thing she cannot just let me not have today. “Mom, we agreed on happy thoughts only…” I reminded her. “And I’m not scared. Not anymore.”
She blew a breath, blinking her tears away as she squeezed my hand. “Okay. I’m sorry, but you’re getting married, Andi!TM
We giggled through the tears, “I know, right?”
I can see the faraway look in her eyes as she remembers old wounds and how far we’d both come.
“I’m so proud of you, you should know that. You are stronger than me, you have always been.” She tried to hold back her tears, but she’s struggling. She groaned as she fanned her face with her hands. “Don’t cry. I’m not crying, okay? We have to be beautiful in those pictures,” she reasoned when we both know she barely cares about those things.
“Alright, Mom,” I giggled. “Lila and Siobhan will kill us if they see us crying.”
We giggled heartily as the door opened, revealing Siobhan and Lila in their matching pink robes. They agreed to help with wedding preparations, as long as there’s a plan for the grand wedding and they’re part of my entourage. I said yes, but I didn’t exactly say when that was gonna happen.
“I’ll leave you to get ready,” Mom said, standing up and giving me another once over. “I’ll see you later.”
I nodded, clinging to her words, promising myself not to cry off all the makeup that Siobhan and Lila were currently fussing

Over
“Hey, we said no tears!” Siobhan gushed, her mossy eyes threatening to pinch my side if I shed a single tear.
“Do you wanna look like you’re on drugs on your wedding day?” Lila asked as she dragged me towards the chair in front of the vanity mirror, where Siobhna was already choosing the base for the make–up they would use on me.
“Maybe she’s crying because she finally realised what a huge mistake this is,” Siobhan supplied, as she picked up a brush. Then Lila started working on my hair, and started to do their magic on me. If my life were a fairytale, these two are my fairy godmothers.
“I hope she does before it’s too late.” Siobahn added, her voice teasing as she winked at me in the mirror. I laughed–really laughed—and the nerves in my stomach loosened just a little.
It took them about two hours to decide that I was presentable enough to wear the white dress Lila helped me pick. It’s the only part of this wedding where she needed my input.
The structure of my gown was a flowing A–line silhouette that catches the breeze with every step. The bodice hugs my curves perfectly, with a subtle sweetheart neckline and thin, barely–there straps that highlight my collarbones and shoulders. Instead of ornate beading or heavy lace, the dress was adorned with tiny embroidered wildflowers along the hem and waist, matching the flowers in the ranch surroundings.
