Chapter 189
-Andi-
I watched Siobhan drag Nana Lucy out of her office, all smiles and excitement for the said imported tea as it she hadn’t just dropped a bomb to ruin my entire life.
I can’t blame her, honestly. What she said was true. I jumped into this thinking that all I needed was my feelings for Becken Apparently, I need to leave my old life behind, all parts of it, to be part of his family.
“Are you okay?” Siobhan walked back into her office a couple of minutes later.
If this were a normal day, I would have cleaned her office already, have her coffee waiting for her at her table, but this isn’t a normal day. This is a day that I learned I need to overhaul my life for my husband.
“No,” I said bitterly, hoping this couch would open up and swallow me whole.
‘I wish there was something I could do to help you,” she went on to sit beside me, her mood mirroring my gloomy one
‘Why can’t Beckett just be some normal guy?” I blurted out the only question that seemed logical in everything that had happened to me since this morning.
Siobhan didn’t have any violent reaction. She had known the Maldinis her entire life. Of course, she knew about the secrets of Beckett’s family.
‘He won’t be Beckett if he’s a normal guy,” she said with a pinch of a smile on her lips, but I could feel pity radiating off her
‘You’re right,” I sighed, tilting my head up so I was looking at the ceiling. “What am I gonna do. Siobhan?” I asked without really hoping for an answer. I know I am the only one who can decide for myself, but I asked her anyway.
Siobhan’s answer surprised me. “Fuck them.”
I snapped from my seat and stared at her, a tentative smile breaking off my lips as I raised my eyebrows,
‘And fuck their rules,” she was careful not to glower, though it was obvious that she was coming from somewhere deep in
her past.
‘Uhm… can I really do that?” I stupidly asked. Of course, Siobhan can do that, but me? Who am I to defy Beckett’s family rules?
Her eyes rolled in exasperation. “Beckett married you because he loves you, not because he thinks you can run their compute Besides, he already relinquished his rights to the Maldini empire long before you two met”
‘I never really asked him about his family,” I admitted as I slouched back into my seat, lowering my gaze only my hands as 1 fumbled with it. “He told me about his grandfather, but I thought… Why do I need to know about his family He’s the one I’m gonna marry, right? Now I regret not asking him everything”
Siobhan hesitated. She nibbled her lower lip, then sighed heavily “I’m not the right person to tell you about his family
I paused, understanding that despite our friendship, Siobhan was still a woman of respect. She won’t choose our friendship over her loyalty to the Maldinis, I get that, but then she added
“If I know anything helpful, I would tell, but sadly. I detested my family long before Beckett did,” she added
I turned to her. frowning. “Is that true?”

Chapter 189
She hummed a yes.
I feel like I’m a bad friend. I had never really gotten to know Siobhan beyond being Beckett’s agent and a successful businesswoman at the age of twenty–eight. There’s more to her than meets the eye, and I feel like that faraway look on her face was a scar from her past.
“Why would you wanna run away from your family?” I, for one, know a reason I would run away from my family. My father But then there’s Mom and Caleb, my reasons to stay. Siobhan must have had a reason to stay
She wiggled in her seat, getting comfortable. “I had a sister, and I saw her go through what Beckett was going through
“You mean wanting to get away from your family?”
She shook her head. “She fell in love with a normal guy with normal life problems, like you.”
Normal life problems?‘ I thought, wanting to laugh at how she described my life problems as if it were a blessing to be this poor. But the wistful look in Siobhan’s eyes shut me up.
“She was happy, you know,” that sad smile on her lips was enough to describe Siobhan’s care for her sister. “But because of our family rules, she had to leave the person she loved behind.”
I swallowed hard. “Why would she do that?”
Deep sadness cast over Siobhan’s face. The memory of this conversation was bringing up pieces of her heart. “She had no choice, Andi,” was all she said, but I sensed that there was more to that story that she wanted to let on. “And Beckett: He made sure he had a choice before he married you. So here’s my advice. Don’t let this sweep you off course. Beckett loved you for what you have right now, don’t let his family ruin that for you.”
