Maid For Beckett Catching The Baseball Legend’s Heart novel Chapter 214

I’ve been with the team for over a decade now. Our managers came and go, my teammates came and go, some stayed, but Doc was one of those people who made a huge impact on my life. Doc had been the Brighton Reapers general manager for over five years now, and we hadn’t won a World Series yet. The team is hungry for victory, and so is Doc.

Tonight was our night off, and I still have a lot of time to spare before I need to pick up Andi from work, so I decided it was high time I talked to someone about my baseball problem, someone who would understand me.

It was easy to know where Doc spends his off day. He was a home buddy. It’s not that he doesn’t drink or doesn’t have friends to go out with, but he’d rather stay home with his dog than be out wasting money.

His place was a humble fourbedroom house in the open country side. With the salary he earns from the team, he could easily buy himself a condo unit in the heart of the city, but he chose to live affumble life. He liked the peace and quiet. something we have in common.

I turned to a dirt path that leads to Doc’s humble abode. I looked left to right, taking in his neighborhood, if I could even call it that, as the sun set.

This part of town is where people live far away from their neighbors. Each parcel of land is no less than an acre. Each cut is cordoned with white fences, and some of Doc’s neighbors are farmers.

The lights in his house were dimmed. I debated knocking on his door. I was definitely invading his privacy now, so I stayed n my car for quite a while, then finally took a deep breath and slid out.

The smell of freshcut grass surrounded me as I walked towards his door. It made me smile. I imagined Doc mowing his property like an old single guy with nothing better to do on his off day.

rapped my knuckles on his door, and a deep bark immediately answered me from inside his house.

waited for a few moments before Doc opened the door. He was in his PJs and a plain white shirt; Surprise blanketed his ace, then morphed into confusion as he realized who was invading his quiet night.

Beckett?he rasped, looking behind me to check if I came with company.

The delicious aroma of meat and herbs slithered out of his house as he kept the door open.

What are you doing here? Is everything okay?he asked, his concern becoming palpable.

rubbed a hand on the back of my neck, unsure now if this was a good idea. I know what I was doing here, but I don’t know

where to start.

II was hoping we could talk, Doc,” I grumbled, my voice was a lot different back when I was talking to granddad.

Ahhcome on in then,he opened the door wider for me. I’m in the middle of making dinner.

Sorry to bother you,I stepped inside, and despite Doc living alone in this house, it was a lot different than Abuelo’s place The walls were made of wood, and the floor creaked under my weight as I walked further inside. The carpet was rugged and imeworn, and so were all the trinkets and pieces scattered around the place. He’s got a couch and a dining table for four His kitchen and living room were separated by a huge beam with a bellshaped chandelier hanging from the center.

It’s tine,he said, heading straight back to the pot on the stove.

His dog, a Belgian Malinois, was sitting on her hind legs beside the table, her eyes watching the stranger in his house.
