Chapter 32
-Beckett-
“What are you doing here, Jace?” I groaned out the moment Jace was within earshot.

My friend, who only came here because I invited him, frowned at me. My tone wasn’t really welcoming to a visitor. I had to phase myself. Jace didn’t know that I was in a bad mood because of Nana’s schemes. It’s not his fault my grandma is hellbent on micromanaging my future.
“What got your panties twisted?” Jace asked, a small crease in his forehead.
I sighed, standing beside him, my mind was still hazy with images of Andi. I don’t know what to feel, or what to think, and being conflicted is something new to me.
I saw her from a distance, and she stood out from the hundreds of beautiful women in designer clothes at Nana’s party. She was the most sparkling gem in the jewelry store, the brightest star in the night sky. It’s like seeing her for the first time all over again, but in a different world.
She looked like a princess in her blue gown. The color made her eyes shine and her skin glow. Also, I didn’t know that she would look like that, all dressed up with her hair curled. She was stunning, more stunning than the models on Siobhan’s payroll.
I thought my heart would leap out of my chest when I grabbed her away from the courtyard. Holding her like that, running away with her was history repeating itself, and I’m starting to enjoy it. There’s a charge of electricity that rushed through my body when I held her. I felt it at the trailer park before, but now it’s stronger. And having her all to myself in the glass dome did something strange to my heart. The stupid part of me was still trashing wildly inside its cage.
“Nothing,” I murmured, lying to one of my closest friends.
“Hmm,” Jace stared at me, unconvinced, but he let it go.
We were standing at the highest point of the courtyard just beside the mansion, overlooking the celebration. Like me. Face never liked the attention outside the ballpark. We are not celebrities; we were just some guys who loved playing baseball
“It’s Nana,” I grunted, picking up a champagne glass from the tray of the server who walked by. “She’s just being difficult again.”
Jace shook his head and took a sip of his wine. He had his other hand tucked in the pocket of his trousers, and his bhee dress shirt looked like it belonged to a kid, stretched to the maximum to accommodate Jace’s huge physique
If he weren’t a baseball player, Jace would pass for a football quarterback, but his physique had never hundered him fo being one of the fastest runners on our team.
“Let me guess,” Jace offered. “She thought that you and Andi would be a good pair
I frowned at my friend, confused Sure, Jace and I were tight. He’s my closest frienst on the team–everyone inled in his all the time–but I never shared anything about my family with bind. It’s not that I don’t trust
about my family period
“How did you know!”

I have no doubt that Nana did. She never calls anyone. I didn’t even know she knew how to call. She has people who d for her. She barely picks up my calls, and now she’s calling Jace?
“First, she told me she could ruin my baseball career,” Jace said, visibly shivering. “I mean, who does that? Greeting me a threat when I haven’t even spoken to her before? Your Nana really frightened me, Beck.”
I let out a chuckle. If only Jace knew who my Nana really is, he wouldn’t only be frightened–he’d be booking the earli flight to Nepal and hiding at Everest Base Camp for good.
‘You were scared of a sixty–eight–year–old lady?” I cajoled.
[ace’s eyes slanted at me. “You didn’t hear her, dude. She’s really terrifying.”
‘Yeah, yeah,” I dismissed, hiding how amused I was with Nana’s obsession with Andi. “What did she want to know?”
ace looked thoughtful. “She asked some really odd questions, like, did you see how Andi handled her boss? Or where w Andi sleeping in the mansion? I didn’t know how to answer some of her questions. She sounded really pissed at me whe she hung up the phone.”
I laughed. “Nana hung up on you?”
‘Yeah, man,” Jace pouted. “No one does that, you know.”
I couldn’t help laughing. Jace is one of the good guys on our team, and good guys get the girls. They call him all the time ind he hangs up on them, not the other way around.
A sixty–eight–year–old did.” I slapped a hand on his shoulder, laughing my heart out.
ace joined in laughing, seeing the irony of his story. “So what happened? Did Nana convince Andi to be your future wife made a dismissive pfft sound. “That will never happen. She hates my guts,” I murmured, remembering how badly I had reated her since she had started working for me.
Andi didn’t show any animosity toward me, but I learned she does that because I am her boss. She has a really attitude–not like the girls who worked for me before her, who only wanted to get in bed with me,
Because you’ve been an asshole towards her,” Jace narrated, dumping all the blane on me, which I cant really thenisy des will never like me–not romantically, that is. Then why does that thought leave a foul taste in my musih?
Tim trying to change that. I didn’t know she was different,” I explained, because Jace knew what kind of ticks the guhe before Andi played on ine

I didn’t really want someone to clean the mansion for me I don’t mind the iurat, in long las más ca okay with Mom sending someone to clean the estate once a week. It was her idea t first place.

“Coach asked about you again,” Jace announced, turning my stomach into knots.
My face turned stoic as I stared toward the lively celebration in the courtyard. “What did you say?”

Jace turned to me with a worried gaze. “He’s asking how you’ve been. He wants you back on the field, Beckett.”
We lost the last game against the Tigers. The team suffered three consecutive losses, and our stats have been up and down since I went on this vacation–a vacation that was forced upon me.
My left shoulder tightened, as if my body was already feeling the pressure of stepping back onto the field. I clenched my fi biting down on the pain that spiraled through my arm.
‘I don’t think I’ll be going back anytime soon,” I murmured, feeling my chest tighten at the thought of not stepping onto t nound again. Baseball is my life, and it’s like I’m already giving up on life.
Then you should tell Coach. He is really counting on you this season,” Jace said, his concern caressing my pain away just f
I moment.
When I saw someone familiar walking down the paved path of the mansion, my eyes narrowed to slits. Walking toward us vas the security I left with Andi.
What are you doing here?” I groaned out before he could say one freaking word. “Where’s Andi?”
He looked bewildered. “Mr. Cole said you asked him to take care of Ms. Andi.”
Cole?” I clenched my fist. “I told you not to leave her alone.”
I… I’m sorry, Sir, I will look for them right away-” the poor guy stammered.
t’s not his fault. I had to remind myself of that. I pinched the bridge of my nose and sighed. “Cole took Andi?”
Yes, sir. Last I saw them, they were walking towards the mansion.”
Chills ran down my spine. Cole would do everything Nana tells him to do, and I have a pretty good idea where he has taken indi.
