Chapter 41
-Andi-
“I’m going to kill her,” Beckett murmured so low, I almost didn’t hear it.

“Uhm, why would she tell you that?” I gasped, cheeks growing red as I placed a hand on my chest. “I would…. I would –“I paused, because I was explaining myself to my boss. Yes, he was my employer, but I didn’t have to explain why o not I’m not going home with anyone. I was single, and a grown–ass woman.
Beckett’s hands were clenched tightly. “Lila is just being Lila,” he said, staring at me with blazing eyes. It wasn’t his usu your–boss–and–you’re–in–my–way stare. No–this one was intense as though he were burning me with his gaze.
His ashen–gray eyes dragged over my face like he was trying to memorize it. Or decode it. Or maybe figure out what me was defective for coming home late in the morning.
I fidgeted. “Uhm, are you okay?”
Something snapped inside him, like a string pulled too tightly.
His jaw clenched. His left shoulder stiffened. He rolled it, his lips pursing. Something was definitely up with his left arm bothered him most when he was worked up or mad at me. Is this the reason he’s not playing in their team’s games? I wa to ask what was wrong, but I didn’t want to start my day being scolded for asking something that didn’t concern me.
“Make breakfast,” he said sharply. “And don’t stay out late on a workday again.”
I blinked. “What? I–what did I do-?”
He didn’t respond. He just walked past me toward the French doors leading to the pool. The next thing I heard was a spl: of water.
I stood there stunned. What the hell was that? One minute he was looking at me like some lovesick golden retriever, ther -ice king of the century.
Speaking of retrievers, Maple, Storm, and River ran through the French doors, barking in unison. They barreled toward n their paws covered in dirt. I kneeled and gave them a good amount of petting. I didn’t mind that they scattered mud on th floor, and I’d have to clean it. At least they were happy to see me.
I made eggs. Toast. Fruit. Bacon. Basically, everything that could be done in minutes. The house was so quiet I could hear the ticking of the stove–steady, slow, unlike my racing thoughts.
He was mad because I stayed out last night on a workday. I didn’t even want to go to Nana Lucy’s birthday. His family was the one who dragged me there.
What the hell is wrong with this family? It’s like they would do their best to piss each other off, and I was caught in the middle of their missions.
When everything was plated, I wiped my hands on a towel, stepping out to the pool to call him-
And immediately forgot how to breathe.
The water rippled like waves crashing onto the shore as Beckett cut through it like a blade–smooth, fast, powerful. Every ripple clung to his skin as if it didn’t want to let go. He surfaced near the deep end and ran a hand through his wet hair; the droplets caught the sunlight like diamonds rolling down his bronzed shoulders.

My mouth went dry, and when I swallowed hard, my mouth watered. My body was as confused as I was whenever I sa Beckett in this light. I even forgot what I came here for.
I couldn’t take my eyes off my boss. He’s a magnetic force that draws me in all the freaking time, no matter how hard!
I felt a tightening in my belly, and the loud thump–thump of my heart. Wake up. Andi. You can’t be attracted to your b Stop that. He’s your employer. Your work is much more important than your desires.
I cleared my throat and tipped my chin up. “Sir,” I managed, voice cracking like I’m hitting puberty again. “Uh–break ready.”
He turned to me, his eyes the same blazing ones, and the sun rays bouncing off his face made him even more beautifu
He swam toward the edge with one lazy stroke after another, and every muscle in his arms flexed as if it were personall trying to ruin my life.
He noticed. He must be used to being watched by girls all the time. The smirk that curved his lips told me so
He pushed himself out of the pool, sitting on the edge for a moment, water streaming down his torso in sinful little rive My eyes followed one without permission.
Goodness. Kill me now.
He stretched to his full height, water dripping off his skin.
I couldn’t move. Couldn’t blink. Couldn’t even pretend I wasn’t shamelessly eye–fucking him.
He leaned down and gently pushed my jaw up so I closed my mouth. His finger was wet and warm against my skin.
“Close your mouth,” he murmured, voice low and unbearably amused, “you’re drooling.”
I slapped a hand over my lips, mortified. A loud groan escaped me.
“What… what did you just say?” I gasped, clenching my fist as I glared at him.
His only answer was a deep, warm, and infuriatingly sexy chuckle as he towel–dried his hair. Even after he called me out f eye–fucking him, I still couldn’t take my eyes off him. There was something wrong with my eyes. That’s the only explanati
there is.
Then he tossed the towel aside and looked at me seriously. “Be ready by seven tonight.”
I frowned. “Seven? For what?”
Maybe he’d make me wash his teammates‘ muddy clothes. Is this his way of getting back at me for staying the night at Siobhan’s?
Then he said coolly, “For our date.”
I froze. I think I just had a mini–heart attack. Did I mishear him? “What?”
He didn’t blink. Didn’t smirk. Didn’t look away.
“Date,” he repeated. “You and me. Tonight.”
My brain short–circuited. Date? With my boss? “I.. I have a lot of things to do.”

“You don’t. I’m your boss, and I paid six hundred grand for this date, so be ready by seven, got it?” He said so casually and coolly.
All I could do was nod and watch his sexy ass disappear into the mansion.
My arrogant boss was ready to cash out his six–hundred–thousand–dollar date.
Oh, I was so, so very screwed.
