Maid For Beckett Catching The Baseball Legend’s Heart novel Chapter 66

-Andi-

Most seats in the stadiumn had been occupied. Siobhan left her seat twice so buy hot dogs and dips, the fever again t take a call from the office. Sometimes I wish I had Siobhat’s work. She could leave at any moment and silangin an support her lifestyle.

Are you okay? I told Beckett you could stay with me, you know. I’m not sure if you’re ready to go out in the crowd.Suchit said when she finally settled down in her seat

The players from the Hawthorne Bay Mariners were being introduced one by one now on the field is echo was a mere noise in my ears,

I’m fine,I smiled gratefully at Siobhan. I gathered she was only here so I would have company. Beckent must have called i a favor, and I truly appreciate that. I think I needed this, you know, something different

Siobhan looked unconvinced, but the roar of the crowd cut through our conversation Carter was walking out of the home team’s dugout, and his face was on the large screen.

I stared at him, really stared at him, wondering why I didn’t even see past that pretty smile, beautiful eyes and enticing smil of his. Behind that pretty face was a cruel man whom I had so many opportunities to see for what he really was. He never really loved me. In fact, he couldn’t even take me to one of his games before, not even as a friend

It’s funny how my boss, who hated me from the day we met, brought me here and dragged Siobhan from her office so I wouldn’t be alone,

I had experienced a lot of new things with my boss that I should have experienced with Carter, since he was my first boyfriend,

Wallowing in things that didn’t happen will do me no good. I know that. And I don’t love Carter anymore, but when the screen showed Carter’s girlfriend, Sarah, my anger lit up anew.

Sarah she was pretty; her face belonged to an angel. Her shiny blond hair bounced as she clapped her hands and waved a her boyfriend, and her clothes looked like they cost my monthly salary at Beckett’s.

He has a girlfriend?Siobhan huffed beside me. And he told you all those things at the shop?

Siobhan was choosing her words carefully. Although the stadium was loud, people might figure out that we are talking about this city’s beloved rookie.

People will say things to get what they want,” I murmured, glad that I didn’t fall for Carter’s tricks again.

Siobhan hummed as she munched on her hot dog. Are you okay with seeing him? I couldn’t tell Beck that there’s someone you don’t want to see in the game.”

Thanks, and I’m okay, I don’t mind seeing him play. People watch his game at the bar all the time,I explained, hoping that was enough to sugarcoat what I truly felt.

Seeing Sarah and Carter exchange flying kisses in the ballpark was a lot different from watching it on TV. In the bar, I have work to do. I can focus on that instead of watching them. Here, I could only sit here and will my chest not to explode in

anger.

The introduction continued, and the national anthem had been sung. Players started to fill out their spots in the diamond, and Carter was the starting pitcher from the Mariners. I might hate him, but I can’t deny that he’s a mesmerising sight on the mound.

Chapter 66

He stood tall, his posture composed and confident, as if he had control of everyone on the tied

The batter was ready, and Carter played with the ball inside his gloves as he looked away from the base Fut counter on the pitch pulsed, he lifted his right leg and moved effortlessly to throw his first pitch of the niger for theach of the umpire’s voice as he shouted strike filled the air.

The crowd watched his pitches one after another as he struck out every batter that stepped on the basing par

His fans jumped to their feet, screaming his name, clapping so hard it echoed through the stadium. Even though it on the top of the first inning, it felt like something monumental had just happened Pain twisted pannelly vary d memory of how he chose to hurt me because of his career spiralled down into my stomach pressed my lips bedor forcing myself to breathe.

I’m fine, I kept repeating this in my head like a mantra. Carter can’t hurt me anymore, any wrote that the deedy or

Have you seen Beckett in the intro?Siobhan asked when the middle of the first inning took place Becent sea filled out the field. I recognise Theo, Miles and Rafael as they take first, second and third bases Cowed a cuber protection gear, Jace stood by the home plate,

No,I answered Siobhan. Is he going to play?

The crowd’s cheers answered my question. The gates to the bullpen opened, and Beckett came out jogging the te This wasn’t even his home court, but the roar of the crowd was even louder than what Carer received

He’s playing?Siobhan gushed, as if she wasn’t happy to see Beckett stepping onto the field.

I think so,” I answer Siobhan.

I assumed he wasn’t playing, that he was only here to support his team. But then again, I heard his name on the lineup earlier; I’m not sure if that was really their team’s plan all along,

An uproar erupted as Beckett Hale reached the mound. The noise wasn’t just cheersit was disbelief, excitement, ar 1 think even the Mariners fans were happy to see Becket play. Even the announcer’s voice shifted, rising with unustakable drama, as the crowd had just been gifted a surprise they didn’t know they needed.

It felt unreal. So this is how the legend is received by the people who love this game,

What the hell are you doing, Hale?Siobhan whispered in disbelief, as if seeing Becket standing tall on the mound was something she didn’t expect to see,

Why, what’s going on?I asked, honestly confused,

Delight and confusion tangled on Siobhan’s face, and somehow, I felt both, too.

I can’t take my eyes off my boss as he throws two pitches towards Jace. He rolled his left shoulder, and I was reminded of those subtle movements since I started working for him. I’d brushed off the slight pruning of his face every time he did that, how he’d flexed his fingers, how he’d gone quiet each time that left shoulder struck.

Something had been wrong, and I assumed that was the reason he wasn’t playing this season. I didn’t know what it was, but 1 knew it hadn’t gone away,

The stadium slowly settled as the batter from the Mariners stood on the batting plate. The excitement faded into a thick, nervous hush. If Carter was mesmerising, Beckett was something else entirely, as it the crowd was waiting to see the highlight of this game.

He hadn’t thrown a single pitch yet, but it already felt like the mound belonged to him. Like the stadium did. Like everyone had subconsciously adjusted their breathing in his presence.

Chapter 60

The Mariners manager was already on his feet, tension etched deep into his brow. When the camera zoomed in am face on the big screen, I saw it clearlyconfusion, wonder, and something close to reverence.

He was as surprised as Siobhan to see Beckett with a glove and standing tall on the mound.

Everyone knew that Carter idolised Beckett.

I remembered the look on his face when he saw Beckett at the trailer park. His surprise, confusion, and anger when he thought Beckett and I were together. I can see the echo of their exchange back then. Carter was still affected by Becken’s butting in on our conversation. The same tension was written plainly in his eyes.

Beckett threw his first pitch, and my breath caught. His movements were smooth. Controlled. There was no visible hesitation, no wince, no sign of pain in his left shoulder.

Three pitches. Strikeout.

The crowd exploded again, louder this time, and I realised my hands were clenched so tightly in my lap that my fingers hurt. Siobhan was holding her breath beside me with each pitch Beckett threw. Something was wrong. I knew that now, and I didn’t know what scared me morethat Beckett looked invincible up there, or that I knew him well enough now to understand that he’s playing a dangerous game.
