Chapter 16 Shattering His Ego

Everyone in the hall was shocked by the powerful, icy aura emanating from Margaret. These were all great figures of Capaville.

Clara, standing closest to Margaret, felt her hands and feet go cold and numb. She bent down, ready to pick up the noose from the floor.

Margaret sat down again, crossed her legs, her posture charming yet her eyes icy and mocking as she looked at Clara.

Only when Margaret’s killing intent eased a little did the people in the hall finally remember to breathe. They started whispering again.

For a moment there, the place had felt like hell itself.

Margaret, you crazy woman! If you’ve lost your mind, go to a mental hospital!Just as Clara was about to pick up the noose, Jose Millerwith his striking looks and calm demeanor- stepped over, helped Clara stand up, and roared in anger at Margaret.

Jose was the heir of the Miller family, one of the big four families. He was also the acting CEO of Miller Group. As a rising star in the business world, he was seen by everyone to have a bright future.

With his looks, family background, and power, he was the dream man for most young women in Capaville.

Margaret looked him over. He wasn’t badlooking. But after seeing that incredibly handsome boy in the wheelchair, every other goodlookingman seemed ordinary to her.

And who are you?Margaret gave him a flat look. In her eyes, there was clear disrespect. She looked at him like he was an insect.

Her stare made Jose angry. How dare this girl look down on him?

But when he saw her stunning face, his eyes couldn’t help showing a flash of admiration.

He quickly returned to his usual proud self. Margaret, let me make this clear. No matter what you do, I will never get engaged to you. You’re not good enough for me. Even if you’re crazy about me, I could never like someone like you.”

In his mind, Margaret was causing trouble at the ceremony because she wanted to take Clara’s place and become his fiancée.

That Margaret had feelings for him was wellknown in Capaville.

He didn’t particularly like Clara either, but he truly despised Margaretthe famous fool. If she became his fiancée, he would be the joke of the town.

was $11.

So what if she had become prettier? She a pretty face with no substance.

He remembered the love letters she had sent him before. The writing was so childish and tacky, worse than a gradeschool student’s essay.

What?

His arrogant words surprised her for a second. Where did he get the confidence to think she would ever be interested in someone like him?

Oh, right. This wasn’t her original body.

She wasn’t Reaper here. She was Margaret.

Then she rememberedthe original Margaret had always been the one to deliver Clara’s love letters to Jose. Those letters had no signatures, so Jose had always believed Margaret was the one who liked him.

With Jose stepping in, Clara finally recovered from her fear. Anger burned in her eyes.

Why should she be afraid of Margaret?

Until today, Margaret had always been the fool she controlled.

Seeing Jose protect her now made Clara feel warm inside. She said in a sweet voice, Jose, Margaret probably got hurt by her boyfriend and can’t handle it. She’s not thinking clearly.

This made Jose dislike Margaret even more. A woman who ran off with a random man and led a loose life didn’t deserve him.

Jose, right?Margaret gave him a lazy look and rubbed her ear with her finger. It was a simple move, but she made it look strangely attractive.

His expression darkened again. He never expected that the messy, frumpy girlalways in baggy clothes, thick glasses, and hair covering half her facewould turn out to be so beautiful.

He pushed down his sudden admiration and puffed up his chest again. Margaret, I’ve told you countless times. I will never like you. Know your place.

He thought her sudden change was partly because she liked him too much, and partly because she had snapped when she heard about his engagement.

See that mirror over there?Margaret pointed casually at a mirror on the wall.

Jose walked over and looked at his reflection. He frowned. What are you trying to say?

Margaret smileda light but charming smile.

Did you see a delusional whackjob in the mirror? How in the world did you think a trainwreck. like you could ever catch my eye?

Her smile was wild and fearless.

Jose’s face turned ugly in an instant.
