Jose came from old money. He always carried himself with grace, like a true gentleman.
But this time, his calm finally broke.
“Margaret, what do you mean?”
His chest felt tight as he stared hard at the girl he had always looked down on.
She had a face impossible to forget at first sight.
A reckless smile played on her lips. Her dismissive eyes made her look like a queen–so bright it was hard to look away.
Margaret’s voice was icy. “Are you stupid? I’m openly calling you a whackjob. Can’t you understand plain words?”
She sounded completely arrogant.
“Margaret, don’t go too far. You won’t get my attention like this.”
Jose was convinced she was just acting up to make him notice her.
Hearing how full of himself he was, Margaret let out a mocking laugh. “You actually think I like you? Kid, being that self–obsessed is a sickness. Look in the mirror. How the hell are you worthy of me? You don’t even qualify to be in my shadow!”
In her past life, powerful men–princes and billionaires–had lined up for her attention. She never gave any of them a second look.
She was Reaper. Those men weren’t worthy of being in her shadow.
Compared to them, Jose was complete trash.
Her arrogance made Jose’s head throb. His eyes darkened as he stared at her confident, stunning face. “Then what about those love letters you wrote me? Everyone in Capaville knows about them.
Back then, she sent him letters so childish they became a joke. His friends teased him about it for weeks.
Hearing him mention the letters, Margaret’s lips curled into an amused smile. “You actually think those brainless letters came from me?”

She looked at him like he was a complete idiot.
Jose’s face turned as dark as an unwashed pot. He shot back, sure of himself, “Who else could it be? Who besides you would write something that stupid?”
Clara, who had been quiet until now, listened with a stiff face.
Her cheeks burned as if she had been slapped over and over.
Margaret glanced at her. That look of contempt made Clara’s heart race.
“Jose, can we stop this? Everyone is watching. Margaret must be upset and not thinking clearly. Let’s just start the ceremony, okay?”
Her words sounded like she was defending Margaret, but she was really guiding everyone’s thoughts.
Margaret had run off with some man, probably got used, and then got dumped.
Seeing Jose press her, Clara panicked. She was terrified Margaret would reveal that the letters were actually from her.
Clara’s hint finally got through. Jose realized that losing his temper with a fool didn’t suit his image.
“Clara, you’re too kind. This crazy woman hit you, and you’re still speaking up for her.”
He looked at the red mark on Clara’s check, a flicker of guilt in his eyes.
“Jose, I’m fine. She’s my sister…”
Clara’s voice trembled, her eyes shiny with unshed tears
Next to her, Margaret’s wild confidence made Clara look like the victim.
“Jose, let’s just finish the ceremony, okay?”
All Clara wanted was to secure her position as his fiancée. Margaret’s sudden return had shaken her deeply.
Jose didn’t answer right away. He just stared at Margaret, his eyes deep and unreadable.
Seeing this, Clara panicked even more.
She had always known Margaret had a stunning face that could enchant any man with one. look.
