Margaret, lying on the sofa, looked casual and unruly-nothing like a lady from a noble family should be. And was she really treating herself as the head of this household?

“Margaret, have you gone too far? What did these servants do to deserve being forced to kneel?” Just seeing her casual attitude made Matthew furious.

He had never liked this daughter who’d come from the countryside. After she ruined his important event today, his eyes burned with pure hatred whenever he looked at her.

Margaret bit into a grape and asked lazily, “Did I tell you to kneel?”

The servants quickly shook their heads. “Sir, we knelt because we made mistakes. It has nothing to do with Ms. Tucker.”

“You see? They knelt on their own. What does that have to do with me?” Margaret’s confident smile showed she wasn’t giving Matthew any respect.

His anger boiled over. Trying to regain authority, he snapped, “Margaret, sit properly! As the eldest daughter of the Tucker family, have you forgotten all proper manners?”

He pointed at her angrily, trying to play the strict family head.

Margaret just gave him a distant look and didn’t move from her position.

Detached, and completely untouchable.

Matthew felt like his head would explode with anger. How did he end up with such a wild daughter?

He rushed forward, ready to pull her off the sofa.

But when he got close, Margaret’s gaze turned sharp as a knife. “Planning to hit me?”

Her stare stopped him in his tracks, reminding him of the powerful kick she’d given him earlier that day.

How was she so strong?

He backed down but kept up the tough talk. “Hmph. I’m a gentleman. Not everyone is as rude and uneducated as you, solving everything with violence.”

Margaret almost laughed out loud.

Before this, influenced by Nichole and Clara’s lies, Matthew had slapped the original Margaret more times than anyone could count.

“Dad, Margaret went through something terrible. She’s been in a bad mood lately and not acting like herself. Please don’t be angry with her. She didn’t mean it.”

Clara came forward to support him, appearing gentle, considerate, and well-mannered.

Looking at his kind, understanding younger daughter, then at his eldest daughter lounging arrogantly on the sofa, Matthew shook his head helplessly. How could they be so different?

He said, “Margaret, look at Clara. You hit her today, yet he’s not angry. She’s been defending you all the way home. When will you learn from her example?”

Margaret chuckled at this, looked at Clara’s fake kindness, and mocked, “Learn what? How to be fake? Or how to scheme behind people’s backs?”

“What do you mean by that?” Matthew frowned.

“Nothing important.”

Clara understood the mockery, and her pretty face tightened.

Since when had this country girl’s personality changed so much?

Suddenly, she was hard to control.

No matter. Even if her personality changed, she was still stupid.

She would win her trust again and manipulate her like before.

Then she glanced at Margaret’s arms and legs.

Hadn’t she told the traffickers to break them?

Why did she look fine now?

Those traffickers were useless. They took the money but didn’t do the job properly, even letting her escape

back home.

The plan was to cripple her, make her suffer for life.

If she had known they were so unreliable, she would have poisoned her instead.

Well, Margaret got lucky this time.

Next time, she wouldn’t hold back. Margaret would die or real.

Clara kept stealing glances at Margaret, her eyes filled with malice.

Margaret saw that, just smiled calmly and asked her meaningfully, “Clara, do you think having your arms and legs broken would hurt?”

Clara’s face turned pale. She clenched her teeth and tightened her fists.

Had this idiot discovered she was behind it?

Clara put on a scared, pitiful act. “What are you talking about? Broken arms and legs? That sounds terrifying. How would I know if it hurts? Don’t scare me I’m easily frightened.”

“Don’t worry if you don’t know now. Maybe you’ll find out someday.”

Margaret was beautiful, and her smile lit up her face.

Sweet and stunning.

But to Clara, that smile felt eerie, creeping under her skin-like a predator had locked onto its prey, making her shiver.

She needed to find a chance to strike first and make this country girl disappear forever.

A flash of murderous intent appeared in Clara’s eyes.
