Liberty smiled. 

Serenity shook her head. “Grandma took my mother-in-law and two aunts to visit Jane. 

They’re planning to stay there until after I give birth. Dad got bored being home alone, so he came to stay with us for a while. 

“Now, he takes Sonny to and from kindergarten, helps him with homework, supervises his calligraphy and piano practice, plays chess with him, and even takes him to the gym. He says having Sonny around keeps him entertained. 

“Hang on, Sis—I’ll go downstairs and let you talk to him.” 

As Serenity spoke, she left her room and started walking downstairs. 

Liberty, still on the phone, reminded her, “Take your time. Don’t rush. Be careful on the stairs.” As Serenity got up, Liberty caught a glimpse of her belly—it had grown noticeably larger. 

“Sis, I’m not a kid anymore,” Serenity said, amused. 

Liberty smiled. “No matter how old you are, you’ll always be my little sister.” 

Even though Serenity was already a grown woman, to Liberty, she was still the baby sister she had always protected—the one who was five years younger but forever precious in her heart.
