When Everly saw that her grandfather was calling, she said to Sonny, “My grandfather’s calling.”

With a polite smile, Sonny gestured for her to pick up. He then turned to look outside the car window to appreciate Clearfield’s scenery.

“Hi, Grandpa.”

Kaden asked, “Everly, have you picked Mr. Brown up?”

“Yep, we’re on the way back to the city now.”

Kaden made a sound of acknowledgment. “Come straight to Clearfield Hotel, then. I’ve booked a private room so you guys can eat once you arrive. Should I order the food now or wait until you get here?

“I think it’s better if you wait until we arrive.”

Sonny was a guest, so it was best if they allowed Sonny to order what he liked.

After having interacted with Sonny, Everly knew that, although he did not seem to be a picky eater, he actually had pretty high standards for food. He had grown up eating fine food and everyone around him knew how to cook, after all.

“Alright, then I’ll wait. Your mom just called to ask when you’re free. Your uncle’s found another great guy for you and wants you to spare some time in the next two days to meet him.”

Kaden was deeply exasperated with Maddie for being so easily swayed by her family, but was still tolerant of her.

If not for her willingness to remain a widow for nearly thirty years, withstanding the pressure while pregnant to give birth to Ike’s unborn child, his family’s bloodline would truly have ended.
