Chapter 93: Siena’s Worries
(Author’s POV)
Sienna had spent three full days at Victoria’s hospital bedside, and she had not wasted a single hour.
She fluffed pillows. She brought food from the restaurant Victoria preferred. She sat through the slow afternoon hours without complaint, flagging nurses the moment Victoria’s water glass ran low.
She played the role of the devoted, selfless daughter with the precision of someone who had rehearsed it her entire life.
Jasper came every day. He noticed. His manner toward Sienna softened visibly with each visit – the careful distance he usually kept between them closed by a few degrees each time. Sienna catalogued every small shift and filed it away.
But Victoria was not softening.
What sat in Victoria’s chest, immovable, was the memory of five hundred million dollars. Not five hundred. Not five thousand. Five hundred million, spent on gifts, scattered like it meant nothing. The number had not left her since she’d first heard it. No amount of fluffed pillows was going to dislodge it.
That afternoon, Jasper arrived and bent over his mother with the attentiveness he reserved for her alone, asking quietly if she needed water.
Victoria waved him off. She turned her gaze to Sienna, her voice perfectly pleasant.
“Sienna, would you mind getting me a glass of water?”
It was a simple request. The kind anyone might make.
Sienna had grown up in the Rathbone household, where people brought things to her. The flash of something ugly moved through her eyes before she could stop it – there and gone in under a second. Then the soft smile returned, and she rose from her chair.
“Of course,” she said. “I’ll be right back.”
The moment the door clicked shut, Victoria’s hand shot out and closed around Jasper’s
wrist.
“Listen to me.” Her voice dropped to almost nothing. “That woman is calculating. Everything she does has a purpose behind it. Even this.” She glanced toward the closed door. “Even

Jasper kept his expression neutral. “Mom-”

“I’m not finished.” She tightened her grip. “Even if the divorce goes through, I need you to promise me you will think very carefully before you do anything else. Very carefully. She was your brother’s wife, Jasper. Your brother’s.” Her eyes held his, steady and exhausted. “I cannot watch you make that mistake. I won’t.”
Jasper covered her hand with his own.
“You need to rest,” he said. “Don’t work yourself up.”
It was not a promise. They both knew it. Victoria released him just as the door opened again and Sienna came back with the water, her smile seamless and her eyes giving nothing away.
(Aurora’s POV)
Stefan Rathbone was already seated when I arrived at the coffee shop.
He wore a dark suit with the kind of fit that announced money without trying. His expression was flat, and he didn’t stand when I sat down across from him. The table between us felt like a formality he was already done with.
“Thank you for coming,” he said, in a tone that made clear he didn’t particularly care whether I
had.
“You said it was important.” I set my bag on the chair beside me. “So. What do you want?” He didn’t bother with preamble. “Drop the lawsuit against Sienna. Complete the divorce without any further noise. Whatever grievances you have, keep them private.”
“That’s it? That’s the ask?”
“Our father is furious. The public accusations in those filings have embarrassed this family. I’m here to contain the damage.” He picked up his coffee. “I don’t care what you and Jasper do with your marriage. That’s not my problem. But dragging Sienna’s name through a courtroom is.”
“She spent five hundred million dollars of marital assets,” I said. “That’s not a grievance. That’s a fact with a paper trail.”
“I’m aware of what it is.” His voice stayed flat. “I’m asking you to be smart about this.”
I looked at him across the table. “Smart.”
“Smart,” he repeated. “You’re not in a position to fight the Rathbone family, Ms. Higgins. You
