Marry Ex's Billionaire Uncle After Divorce (Aurora and Jasper) novel Chapter 24

Chapter 24: I Won’t Be Coming Back-1

(Author’s POV).

Sienna had been racking her brain for days trying to win Rosalind’s affection. She decided to take the child to an open-air pool party at a private estate in Malibu. The result was disastrous. By the time they returned to the city, Rosalind was burning up with a high fever.

The family doctor took one look at the thermometer and immediately referred them to the emergency room.

In the pristine white examination room, the ER doctor typed rapidly into the electronic medical record. “Mild pneumonia accompanied by a bronchial infection,” he announced, his tone professionally detached. “She needs to be admitted for observation immediately.”

Sienna wrung her hands. “Is it serious?”

The doctor stopped typing and looked over his glasses. “The ocean breeze in Los Angeles is deceptive this time of year, especially in Malibu. If a child comes out of a heated pool and isn’t dried off immediately, the temperature drop can easily trigger a respiratory infection.”

His gaze lingered on Sienna, his eyes holding a subtle, stinging disapproval of her negligence. Sienna’s eyes turned red instantly. “She kept begging to stay in the water,” she stammered, her voice trembling. “I just didn’t want to be the bad guy and ruin her fun.”

The doctor didn’t engage with her excuses. He turned to the nurse station. “Prep a VIP suite. Start her on IV antibiotics and respiratory therapy immediately.”

Sienna followed the gurney out of the ER, sobbing into a tissue. She leaned against the corridor wall, looking like she might collapse.

“I’m so sorry, Jasper,” she wept, looking up at him with tear-filled eyes. She looked fragile and broken, a delicate flower crushed by guilt.

Jasper felt a surge of protectiveness. He had been annoyed by the oversight, but seeing Sienna so distraught softened his anger.

“It’s not entirely your fault,” Jasper sighed, pulling her into a stiff hug. “Aurora always handled these things. You don’t have experience with children.”

He checked his watch. “I’ve texted Aurora. She’s on her way.”

Sienna stiffened in his arms. The mention of Aurora didn’t comfort her; it sparked a cold flame of jealousy in her chest. Even in a crisis, he turned to his ex-wife first.

Chapter 24 1 Won’t Be Coming Back-

Inside the VIP ward, the atmosphere was chaotic. Rosalind lay in the center of the large bed, whimpering and thrashing as a nurse tried to insert an IV line.

“It hurts! Get away from me!” Rosalind shrieked.

Jasper tried to hold her hand, but he felt clumsy and useless. He couldn’t help but remember how Aurora used to handle these nights. She was always calm, holding Rosalind securely, whispering stories until the needle was in and out before the child even noticed.

“Calm down, Rosie,” Jasper said, smoothing her hair. “Your mother will be here soon.”

Rosalind yanked her hand away, turning her face to the pillow. “I don’t need her!” she shouted petulantly. “I don’t want to see her!”

In reality, the little girl was hurt. Aurora hadn’t video-called her in a week, and her resentment had festered into a stubborn, childish rage.

(Aurora’s POV)

I arrived at the hospital twenty minutes after receiving the text. My heart was pounding against my ribs as I sprinted down the hallway to the VIP wing.

I burst into the room, my breath coming in short gasps. “What happened?” I demanded, looking at the pale child in the bed. “Why pneumonia? It’s the middle of summer.”

Rosalind looked at me, her eyes wet with tears. Instead of relief, her face twisted into a scowl.

“It’s your fault!” Rosalind screamed, pointing a shaking finger at me. “You didn’t tell me the weather was going to be cold! You didn’t pack my jacket! You made me get sick!”

I froze. The absurdity of her accusation hit me like a physical slap. She was blaming me for an outing I didn’t even know about.

“Stop right there,” I said, my voice cutting through her tantrums. “Putting on clothes when you are cold is common sense, Rosalind. I am your mother, not your personal servant. I don’t live with you anymore. Do not blame your father’s negligence on me.”

Rosalind’s mouth fell open. She wasn’t used to me fighting back. Shocked, she burst into loud, wailing tears.

Chapter 24: I Won’t Be Coming Back-2

I ignored her theatrics and turned on Jasper. I stepped into his personal space, my finger jabbing hard into his chest,

“I don’t care about the nanny,” I hissed, my anger boiling over. “*You* are the parent on duty. She is on *your* watch. How do you manage to run a multi-million dollar company but can’t keep one child alive for a weekend?”

The door opened behind me. A doctor walked in, checking a clipboard.

I spun around, blocking his path. “Doctor, I need the specific cause of the infection. Now.”

The doctor looked from me to the sobbing child and the two uncomfortable adults in the corner. He seemed to understand the dynamic instantly. His lip curled slightly as he glanced at Jasper and Sienna.

“Hypothermia induced by prolonged exposure,” the doctor stated bluntly. “Someone let the child sit in a wet swimsuit in the wind for over an hour. It’s a textbook case of neglect.”

He shook his head as if he’d witnessed a bad joke and walked out to check the monitors.

I turned back to them slowly. The silence in the room was deafening.

“You heard him,” I said, my voice dropping to a dangerous chill. I looked at my daughter. “Since you hate me so much, Rosalind, I’m done. I won’t play the villain in your life anymore. You want to be spoiled? Fine. Good luck.”

“You’re overreacting, Aurora,” Jasper snapped, his face darkening. “She’s a child.”

Sienna stepped forward, her face a mask of concern. She reached out and grabbed my arm, her touch overly familiar.

“Aurora, please,” she said loudly, “don’t take it out on Rosie.”

She leaned in close, bringing her lips to my ear. Her voice dropped to a venomous whisper.

“He believes me, not you,” she hissed.

As she spoke, I felt her sharp manicured nails dig viciously into the tender flesh of my inner arm.

The pain was sharp and immediate. Reflexively, I grabbed her wrist and twisted.

I said, shoving her away hard. “Save the fake tears for someone who buys

“Get your claws off I it.”

Sienna didn’t even try to regain her balance. She threw herself backward with exaggerated force,
